Marvel’s Viral Marketing For New Show Redeems Its Worst Movie

Written by Chris Snellgrove | Published

Although I absolutely love the movie, many fans consider it just that Iron Man 3 the worst Access to the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are many reasons for this, but the one that angered fans the most was the revelation that the terrorist mastermind, The Mandarin, was actually just a drunk actor named Trevor Slattery.

Trevor Slattery’s character returns in the future The miracle man series, and now Marvel is redeeming its worst villains with viral marketing disguised as hilarious fliers for Slattery’s acting classes.

Flyers, you idiots!

Across the country, fans have recently started seeing posts with Ben Kingsley’s face. The label at the top reads “Trevor Slattery” and identifies him as “acting star coach.” His motto is “Acting is not a job, it is a calling.” Even more excitingly, the poster encourages fans to text the word “act” to 805-8-TREVOR for acting tips.

If you text the number, you receive the following message: “Greetings, dramatist! Sign up for The Slattery Method, an acting seminar by me, Trevor Slattery.” Next, you’ll be asked to “Reply Y to sign up for autodialed text messages from Marvel about Wonder Man.” After doing so, you’ll get a text reading “Cheers to your acting journey,” a link to a promotional video for the acting seminar starring Ben Kingsley as Slattery, and the chance to add a Marvel character as a contact to your phone.

From werewolves to congressmen

The video (also available on YouTube) features Slattery introducing himself and promoting the “Slattery Method.” He declares himself a “legendary actor” and promises to provide the tools necessary to transform students into “the next Trevor Slattery.” The short video contains plenty of deadpan humour, including the actor promising to “make you think I’m a werewolf, or a congressman, or Tickle Me Elmo,” before encouraging the actors to text “act” to the number listed above.

As such, it is a completely independent marketing system: the video advertises the number, and the number advertises the video. Speaking of numbers, if you try to call Slattery’s contact on your phone, you’ll receive a voicemail from Kingsley describing how the seminar will help you master box breathing, improvisation, the “fine arts of dialect,” and how to ace an exam. The letter ends with him saying something about the IRS that I couldn’t understand because he started speaking with an accent somewhere between Steve Urkel and Borat.

Lessons begin

Since I started writing, I’ve had one “lesson” from Slattery in the form of a 30-second audio recording on improvisation. The letter has the same off-kilter humor as everything else, with the character saying that he prefers the “no, but” structure to the traditional “yes, and” structure of improvisation. As an example, he says he once responded to a director’s question about whether he was off-book (acting slang to save a scene), with, “No, but I’m great.”

Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery Iron Man 3

I wasn’t really excited about all this The miracle man Before that… I found him to be a largely forgettable character in comics, and Marvel’s recent record has been very hit or miss. But I found this bit of the show’s war declarations very endearing, and it’s great to see Oscar-winning actor Ben Kingsley willing to be so silly in exchange for a little viral marketing. Honestly, if it’s going to be as funny on the show as it is in the video and audio message, I now have at least one major reason to watch the show. The miracle man displays.

Redemption of the worst Marvel movie

I’m also tentatively optimistic that it’s both The miracle man And this viral marketing does something that previously seemed impossible: gets fans to give Iron Man 3 Another shot. It is by far The funniest Iron Man movies, with Ben Kingsley playing the creepy Mandarin and the bumbling Trevor Slattery. Even if you hate the twists and turns about his character, the simple fact is that Kingsley is one of the best actors ever never Blessing MCU.

Fans can rediscover just how good Kingsley is The miracle man Premiering January 27, 2026. Hopefully Wonder Man actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II can match Kingsley’s swag as this unlikely duo lights up the small screen. If the actor playing the main character is doing a bad job, there’s always a simple solution: they can text 805-8-TREVOR to take some acting lessons from Trevor Slattery!
