Melissa Gilbert’s Remarks About Child Sex Amid Husband’s Arrest Warrant

The Albuquerque Police Department alleges that the 68-year-old actor and director sexually assaulted 11-year-old twin boys, with one of them claiming the abuse began at age 7.

Investigations date back to 2024 after a UNMH doctor raised concerns. The boys, who are child actors in the film “The Cleaning Lady,” were reportedly groomed by Melissa Gilbert’s husband.

Melissa Gilbert addressed the issue of child sexual abuse in a social media post a few weeks before an arrest warrant was issued for her husband, Timothy Busfield, related to allegations involving minors.

An arrest warrant issued by the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) and obtained by People magazine On Friday, January 9, Busfield, 68, allegedly engaged in illicit sexual intercourse with 11-year-old twin boys.

Authorities stated that one of the minors claimed that the alleged incidents began when he was 7 years old. Busfield faces two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse.

Weeks ago, Gilbert, 61, shared an Instagram post dated Nov. 15 featuring an old photo of herself reflecting on her time on “Little House on the Prairie,” where she worked opposite an on-screen love interest portrayed by Dean Butler, who was several years older than her.

Writing the post at the time, Gilbert said she hesitated before posting but ultimately felt compelled to speak out after seeing other women sharing similar experiences online using hashtags like #IWasFifteen and #IWasAChild.

Curious, she searched for photos of herself from that era and was disturbed by what she found.

Looking back, Gilbert said she felt sick to her stomach when she realized that the same little girl who had envisioned her Hawaii vacation with her family was also expected to “fall in love” with and kiss a man in the film who was several years older than her.

She added: “Through today’s lens, this is shocking. I have no other words than to say: I was a child.” “I was fifteen.” “And you were the good news.”

Gilbert expressed her gratitude to her mother, Michael Landon Sr., and others who ensured her safety, saying, “Can you imagine if I didn’t have them all? I’m very (kind of) lucky. A lot of other young women aren’t.”

Several weeks later, on Friday, January 9, authorities in New Mexico issued an arrest warrant for Gilbert’s husband, Timothy Busfield, according to documents obtained by the site. Us Weekly.

The warrant alleges that the actor and director engaged in illicit sexual conduct with 11-year-old twin boys while working on the set of the television series “The Cleaning Lady.”

One of the minors told investigators that the alleged abuse began when he was seven years old.

The accompanying affidavit obtained by the newspaper states that the child was “very afraid of Tim and felt relieved when he was off the set.”

The boy was also reportedly “afraid to tell anyone because Tim was the director, and he was afraid Tim would get mad at him.”

The arrest warrant also indicates that investigators conducted a telephone interview with Busfield, during which his wife, Gilbert, was present and speaking on speakerphone.

The investigator wrote in the affidavit that both “Timothy and his wife, Melissa, had previously told me that they were in a relationship with… [the young boys] “And their families are out of work.”

She continued: “They reported that they had bought Christmas gifts for the two boys and that they had been together at several social events.”
