Meteorologists Say the National Weather Service Did Its Job in Texas

Sudden floods in this part of Texas are not new. Matt Lanza, an accredited digital meteorologist in Houston, says eight inches of rain in the state “can be on a day ending in Y. It is a challenge, he says, to balance predictions that often show large amounts of rain with how the audience is sufficiently prepared for these rare but dangerous storms.

“It is extremely difficult to warn of this – to get general employees who do not know meteorology and do not look at this every day to understand how quickly these things change,” says Lanza. “In fact, the biggest ready -made meals are that the more dangerous of heavy rains in Texas, the more ready it should be.”

Meteorologists say NWS an act Send sufficient warnings because she got updated information. By noon on Thursday, flood control of the region was issued, and it was a valid flood warning by one o’clock in the morning on Friday. The agency issued an emergency alert at 4:30 am.

“Weather service was on the ball,” says Vagasky. “They were raising the message.”

But as the local KXAN company mentioned for the first time, it appears that the first warnings of the flood published from safety officials to the public have been sent on Facebook at 5 am, hours after the NWS version is its warning.

“It is clear that there was a collapse between when the warning was issued and how people got it, and I think this is what to really talk about,” Lanza says.

The discounts made on NOAA as part of the efforts of the government’s efficiency management of president Donald Trump have led newspaper headlines this year, and for a good reason: NWS has lost more than 500 employees since the beginning of the year, leaving some offices without competing overnight. The main programs and even satellites that help track the harsh weather are cut. Meteorologists have repeatedly said that these cuts will make harsh weather forecast more difficult – and can be fatal as shipments change in climate and increase rain. But both Vagasky and Lanza say that this week’s expectations were solid.

“I just want people to understand that the prediction office in San Antonio did a great job,” says Vagansky. “They came out of the warning, but this was an extreme event. Rain rains were over six hours above 1,000 rainfall. This is less than 0.1 percent of the chance of this in any specific year.”

Some of the first changes made in NOAA due to DOGE discounts were the release of the weather in all parts of the country to be completely reduced or eliminated. But the balloons that spread this week-including one was sent over Texas on Thursday, which showed a saturated atmosphere with slow-moving winds, giving the head on the potential heavy rains-the valuable information that helped inform expectations.

“This data helps,” says Lanza. “Maybe it could have been worse, as you know? If you don’t have this data, you are blind.”
