Mexico’s postal service announces pause on package shipments to US

With the deadline for the end of the minimum exemption that allows a charge exempt from customs duties in the United States, Correos de México, Mexico, Correos de México, stopped the package to its northern neighbor.
A press release of the Ministry of Internal Security on July 31 explained that “under the minimum Treatment, and imported goods, whose value is estimated at or less than $ 800 of customs tariff duties.
Due to an executive order issued by President Donald Trump, the minimum exemption will end on Friday, August 29.

“For this reason, Correos de México will temporarily suspend postal delivery and packages to the United States starting from August 27, 2025, while new operations are defined,” a statement from the Mexican government indicated.
“Mexico continues its dialogue with the American authorities and international postal organizations to identify mechanisms that will allow the resumption of organized services, provide certainty to users and avoid setbacks in delivery of goods,” the statement announced.

As the deadline for ending the minimum exemption was passed, the reaction of various postal services around the world was by announcing a temporary stoppage on shipments to America.

“The two countries have taken advantage of this system to flood the American market with cheap commodities that undermine American manufacturers and American jobs. This exemption also allowed drug cartridges and other criminal organizations to smuggle drugs and other smuggled to our country,” DHS statement in July.
