More than 500k immigrants missed their court hearings under Biden: analysis

More than half a million migrants failed to appear in their immigration court listening sessions during the era of former President Joe Biden.
Between the fiscal year 2022, the first full year of the Biden Administration, and at the end of December 2024, immigration judges issued more than 507,000 of absence removal orders, or removal orders for those who failed to appear in their listening sessions, according to the analysis of the Immigration Studies Center (CIS).
The number represents an increase of 45 % in such cases compared to the previous seven years during the era of former President Barack Obama and President Donald Trump I, although this period is more than twice the time frame.

Andrew t said. Arthur from CIS in the report: “Those who are no more than 500,000 people are not exposed to the symptoms of Biden administration’s efforts to deliberately break our immigration system, and it will now take years to restore this system to the right track.”
In the case, according to Arthur, the Biden administration “refused” the detention of illegal immigrants when they initially confronted them on the border by customs and US border protection (CBP), as they issued the “vast majority” of them with a notice of appearance before the Immigration Court.
Arthur said that these immigrants are the most vulnerable to the court’s procedures.
Arthur said: “It is evident under the Immigration Law that foreigners who are unlikely to be entitled to relief are less likely to appear before the court if they were released – this is why congress asked the Ministry of National Security to detention by CBP on the borders and ports.”

Under the current immigration law, immigrants who were faced by CBP officers and border patrol agents who do not have documents for admission are subject to fast removal, giving these migrants to a hearing before the immigration judge, unless they show a reliable fear of harm if they are returned to their country of origin, according to the CIS report.
The report adds, something that does not happen according to the Biden administration.

Arthur said: “Half of a million foreigners who have failed to appear before the Immigration Court over the past four years are only an inevitable result of the Biden administration refusing to comply with our immigration laws.” “It is a symptom of a deliberate broken system, which will remain on court cage for years to come.”
