MS Dhoni’s IPL retirement declaration made by CSK CEO

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has finally revealed whether legendary captain and wicket-keeper-batsman MS Dhoni will play in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Kasi Viswanathan made this massive revelation during a conversation with a couple of kids at an event and made things quite clear about where MS Dhoni stands at this moment in his career.

MS Dhoni is locked for IPL 2026

Dhoni is arguably the greatest captain in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is the heart and soul of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and has led the franchise to massive success in the league.

He has been a part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since the inaugural edition of the tournament and only changed the rules when the franchise was banned for two years.

Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings to five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles, the latest in 2023 when the Men in Yellow beat Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad.

MS Dhoni is 44 years old and already past his prime, but he is still a vital member of CSK. Ruturaj Gaikwad was chosen as Dhoni’s successor, but last year, when the Maharashtra star was injured, the legendary skipper once again had to step in as captain.

After the end of the season, Dhoni maintained suspense about his future in the IPL and did not reveal whether he will play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 or retire from the game. However, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that Dhoni will not retire.

Viswanathan: Yes, we are ready, but we don’t know if we will be able to win, but we will do our best.

Child 1: Is Donnie going to retire?

Viswanathan: No, he’s not retiring.

Child 1: When will Donnie retire?

Viswanathan: I will ask him and get back to you.

Child 1: Who is the new member you are planning to bring into your team?

Viswanathan: We can only know when the auction record comes out. This will be known by the first week of December. Then I can talk to you, you can meet me then.

Child 2: How does it feel to be the Managing Director of CSK?

Viswanathan: I feel very proud to be one of the best teams in the IPL.

CSK had a terrible campaign in IPL 2025

Chennai Super Kings finished their 2025 Indian Premier League campaign at 10th position on the points table. They won just four games and lost 10 on the season and had a net earned run average of -0.647.

This was the first time that Chennai Super Kings had finished at the bottom of the points table in history, and also the first time that the team had missed the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.
