The man who was arrested was on the run for Doughty’s Casino embezzlement
The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office published a statement about Tonar and the illegal seizure of proceeds in the lead-up to his arrest.

Sparks Police Department officers were called to the location of Tonar’s employer in 2025 amid speculation that he was stealing money, the release said. CCTV video then confirmed that Tonar was taking money from multiple Dotty’s Casino office locations.
“Detectives from Sparks and Reno police joined together in the case and discovered that the defendant embezzled from six different locations, taking a total of $714,713.59,” the District Attorney’s Office said.
The man had tried to flee the state with the proceeds he obtained from his continuous theft, and the police later arrested him.
“Tonar then moved out of the state to California,” the statement read. “He was arrested a few days later at a hotel in Sacramento in a joint operation by law enforcement. A search of his belongings found $677,069 in stolen money and three guns.”
Presiding Judge Barry Breslow sentenced Tonar to four counts of embezzlement of $100,000 or more and two counts of embezzlement of less than $100,000.
Tonar’s total sentence reportedly ranged between thirty-eight years in prison.
