NFL fans mock Younghoe Koo as Giants cut veteran kicker 2 weeks after viral botched kick

Placekicker Younghoe Koo joined the New York Giants in September. However, just three months later, the team appears to be looking in a different direction with him.

According to reports, the Giants decided to waive Coe on Tuesday. This brought his quick stint with the team to an abrupt end.

Fans on social media shared their reactions to the Giants waiving Yongho Koo.

“Honestly it needs to be done, honestly. Koo hasn’t been good the last 2 years with the #Falcons or the #Giants and that’s why the #Falcons released him. He’s had a lot of injuries and is never the same,” this fan wrote.

This decision comes after Yongho Ko missed a field goal attempt during their 33-15 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 13. He played in five games while hitting four of the six field goals he attempted.

Koo began his NFL journey as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017. In 2019, he spent time playing for the Atlanta Legends in the NFL Alliance.

Ko then spent seven seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before joining the Giants. So far, in eight years, he has played in 98 total matches and scored 185 of the 217 goals he has attempted.

Younghoe Koo’s contributions got real on his failed field goal attempt against the Patriots

In the second quarter of the Giants’ game against the Patriots, Yongho Ko was brought up for a 46-yard field goal attempt. However, he failed with his kick, hitting the turf instead of the ball, resulting in a turnover after a tackle by Jimmy Gillan.

Two days after the game, Ko broke his silence about the failed field goal attempt.

“I was getting close to the ball and in the cold weather, the ball slid underneath so it was moving,” Coe said. “I couldn’t kick the ball. The ball was moving when I was driving towards it, so I stopped it.”

The Giants have had a disappointing campaign this season. They fired coach Brian Daboll last month. They are currently 2-12 with an eight-game losing streak after Sunday’s loss to the Leaders.
