Nick Jonas Surprises Fans With A Raw, Personal New Solo Project

During an intimate brunch on Sunday at Nellie’s Southern Kitchen in Las Vegas, a restaurant owned by the Jonas family, the 33-year-old singer surprised fans by announcing his new solo album, “Sunday Best.” The record, his first solo project in nearly five years, is scheduled to drop on February 6. The brunch performance on Sunday 30 November doubled as a special listening event with 170 lucky fans hearing the first ever live performances of several new tracks. Joined on stage by Behind The Wall’s Danielle Wall, Nick Jonas discussed the “inspiration, stories and creative journey behind the album,” which includes collaborations with JP Sachs, MUNA’s Josette Maskin, Blush, and Ryan Daly.

Nick Jonas says new album is ‘deeper than ever’
The release notes that Sunday Best “dives deeper than ever, drawing from the important life chapters, both celebratory and difficult, that he has faced over the past year and the new perspective he has gained as a husband and father.”
“I’m so excited to share these new stories, candid thoughts, quiet walks at home in the city, and snapshots of my life over the past few years,” Nick said in a statement, per the magazine. “And even though this album was made over the last two years, it was really 33 years in the making.”

Jonas mixes honest new music with fan-favorite gospel bounce

The album announcement comes on the heels of another major moment in Nick’s solo comeback. On November 17, during the Jonas Brothers’ show at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, he released a new song called “I Need You.” Before sitting down behind the piano for an emotional performance, accompanied by a full choir, a brief introduction was played. In it, Nick’s voice asks: “How would you describe this album to someone who’s never heard your music before?”
Nick responded, “I’d ask them if they know what love is, what it really is, and if they say yes I’ll say ‘So you know what an album sounds like.'” The performance moved the audience…and then the energy quickly shifted.

Immediately following “I Need You,” Nick dropped a peppy, chorus-driven version of his 2014 hit “Jealous.” Longtime fans knew exactly what was coming. The gospel version, which he debuted in a Vevo performance 11 years ago, a clip that has since garnered more than 36 million views. The live revival received huge cheers and sparked speculation that Nick was quietly preparing fans for a full solo era. As it turns out, that’s exactly what he was doing.

A look back at Nick Jonas’ recent solo era

Nick’s return to solo music marks his first full-length project since the release of “Spaceman” in 2021. The album, which is a pop jam, and an exploration of love, longing and isolation, was heavily influenced by the emotional landscape of the pandemic. Featuring tracks like “This Is Heaven,” “Spaceman,” and “Don’t Give Up On Us,” this recording provided fans with a deeper look into Nick’s personal life and his relationship with his wife. Prior to “Spaceman,” Nick’s 2016 album “Last Year Was Complicated” was as successful as “Close” featuring Tove Lo and demonstrated a more mature, introspective sound that helped establish his identity as a solo artist outside of the band. Fueled by the hit song “Jealous,” his 2014 self-titled album launched Nick Jonas officially into pop stardom on his own terms.
Nick isn’t the only one branching out
