Now You Can Get Your Flu Vaccine at Home

Instead of going To the pharmacy for the annual influenza vaccine, many people in the United States will be able to charge them to their door to take at home themselves.

Starting today, Astrazneca’s Flumist is available through an online pharmacy in 34 states. Flumist is not a new vaccine. It was originally approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2003 and it could not have been managed by a health care specialist. But last September, the FDA (FDA) said that the vaccine could be self -managed.

It is the first battle in Astrazeneca in the direct medicine of the consumer-a trend led by Novo Nordisk and Elie Lily to sell the famous GLP-1 diabetes and weight management to patients.

“We have realized that people’s daily lives are more preoccupied than ever, and we knew that we needed to meet people as they face the facts of real life,” Tonya Villanana, Vice president of Medical and Scientific Affairs at Astrazeneca, told a press conference on Thursday. “Flumist Home is designed to remove traditional obstacles in front of vaccination, things like a clinic visits, wait for the queue, and fear of needles.”

Astrazeneca hopes that the width at home will help increase influenza vaccination rates. Only about 47 percent of adults are vaccinated against influenza, according to centers of control and prevention control. Among children, influenza vaccination rates are decreased along with other routine childhood vaccines rates. As of April 26 this year, 49.2 percent of children received a flu vaccination – less than 53.4 percent at the same time in the previous season, for each center of diseases.

“Obtaining vaccination every year is the best way to prevent influenza, which causes the disease a large percentage of US population every year and may lead to serious complications, including hospitalization and death,” Peter Marx, the former director of the FDA Center (FDA), said in a statement last year on the approval of the distress.

The Center for Disease Control ranked the influenza season 2024-2025 as a high intensity in all age groups in the United States, which led to at least 610,000 hospitals and 27,000 deaths. The influenza season was the most severe since the Flu Fluena H1N1 2009.

Astrazneca approval in September 2024 was based on a study with vaccine recipients and care providers to assess whether the use instructions were properly designed so that they can use the vaccine safely and effectively.

The vaccine contains twice as a form of a living influenza virus and protects from four types of influenza breeds. It is approved for ages from 2 to 49 years. For those under the age of 18, it should be managed by the care provider.

To order, customers will need to complete the medical examination questionnaire. The licensed health care provider will review every submission to determine the eligibility. Once the eligibility is confirmed and the insurance verification, the vaccine will be described and charged directly to the buyer’s house on a history they choose. Flumist is covered by most insurance plans, but consumers will need to pay a $ 8.99 delivery fee.

Astrazneca says that Flumist has not yet been available in all states due to local pharmacy laws, but the company aims to be able to provide home spray to all neighboring cases in the future. The vaccine will remain available in doctors ’offices and management pharmacies by healthcare professionals across the country.
