NYC housing costs may rise with new gas appliance regulations

Residents of New York City may soon face higher costs in the housing market.

The New York City Council will vote on a draft law on Thursday that requires a licensed master’s plumber, or a person working under one, to conduct all inspections of residential buildings and replace gas devices such as drugs and clothes dryers.

Simoniti said: “There are only about 1,100 licensed plumbers in the city who are identical to these qualifications, and they do not become cheap.”

Critics argue that this measure can lead to increased costs and create delays. They can add at least $ 500 to the price of installation or replacement of the gas device, making it also difficult to set the date for the limited number of qualified plumbers.

“At least an increase in cost is $ 500 to install or replace your gas devices if this bill pass,” Kenny Burgus, CEO of the New York Apartments Association, told Fox Business.

“Moreover, there is a real logistical problem when you have a small number of main plumbers and many devices that are disturbed regularly around the city here,” Burgos added.

Tenants are already pressed in New York City. The average monthly rent in Big Apple is 4000 dollars per month – 146 % higher than the national average – and the draft lawyers are afraid that real estate owners will pass the organizational costs added directly to the tenants.
