NYC housing costs may rise with new gas appliance regulations

Residents of New York City may soon face higher costs in the housing market.

The New York City Council will vote on a draft law on Thursday that requires a licensed master’s plumber, or a person working under one, to conduct all inspections of residential buildings and replace gas devices such as drugs and clothes dryers.

Simoniti said: “There are only about 1,100 licensed plumbers in the city who are identical to these qualifications, and they do not become cheap.”

“Moreover, there is a real logistical problem when you have a small number of main plumbers and many devices that are disturbed regularly around the city here,” Burgos added.
