One common thread at some of the companies seeing the most success with AI: Woman CEOs

Women apply nine companies that have appeared in the recently published Fortune AIQ list, a classification of Fortune 500 companies that mature more in their adoption of artificial intelligence, when it comes to how technology leaders are estimating their investments in artificial intelligence compared to competitors.
These women -led companies come from many wide angles of the economy, from space and defense to banking and retail services. It represents 18 % of the AIQ menu, compared to women who run only 11 % of all companies in the Fortune 500 menu in 2025.
The cases of artificial intelligence that were widely published by these companies varied. Citigroup Financial efforts in Citigroup (No. 38) of AI include keeping 175,000 employees on how to write better claims to generate more influential results than the large language model information. The Progressive Istage (No. 22) uses artificial intelligence to help sorting hundreds of thousands of job applications. The recently launched tool by Albertsons (No. 30) can have a conversation with consumers and suggest groceries to consider purchase during online shopping, which has proven to raise the total basket size.
Distribution of the list of companies led by women to AIQ 50 is the S& P Global Financial Analysis Company (No. 12), Space and Defense General Workers Dynamics (No. 21), Northrop Grumman (No. 43), Freeport-McMORAN (No. 31), Centers Health (No 27) and Eleftancee Health (no. 35).
Gil Bodro, president and executive director of Elevance Health, says her vision of artificial intelligence is somewhat simple and direct. “Make health care easier, affordable and more personal,” says Bodro.
Some cases of use of the generation published by the Health Elevance tools include tools that facilitate customer service representatives to recover the information they need to answer customer questions. Elevance Health also uses Amnesty International to automate copies of these calls, which also wipes any problems that have arisen during the call. Artificial intelligence tools then provide advice on how to improve the ability of the future actor to deal with similar requests.
“We have productivity tools that support artificial intelligence that are used by more than 60,000 participants to help reduce frequent tasks, so that the teams can focus more on supporting our members and service providers,” says Bodro.
She also pointed to the artificial intelligence certificate provided to employees through partnership with Openai, which gives employees official recognition fluent in artificial intelligence, which ranges from basic skills such as scandalous engineering to the most advanced work tasks that support artificial intelligence.
Women tend to be “adopted” when relying on previous technology trends, such as social media, and Fortune data may indicate that this consumer behavior may reflect in the corporate environment.
“What you see is that the CEO of women appears to adopt new technologies, in some respects that correspond to some consumer adoption behaviors that we have seen in other technologies,” says Larina Yi, director of the McKinsey International Institute and a senior consulting partner.
YE is the founder and leading author of the MCKINSEY project for 10 years about women in the workplace, which has found that women make up 29 % of C-SUITE positions as of 2024, up from 17 % in 2015.
There is also a mixed image when looking under the hood. Most of the largest startups AI that build large language models or other systems to push this technological progress, including Openai, anthropic, and databrics, are largely involved in its foundation and led by men. Early data indicates that women -led artificial intelligence companies attract little financing from investment capital (although the previous Openai CTO Mirati, which raised two billion dollars in July is a noticeable exception), reflects the general trend through the entire economy.
More encouraging, women in technology surrounded the role of the main financial official. Women work as a financial manager in Openai, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet and Salesforce.
“Although the CEO may not be a woman in all these companies, the financial manager is a very strong role,” says Yi.
Sarah Franklin, CEO of the Human Resources Platform, says Amnesty International, says that both sexes start at the same point when it comes to adopting artificial intelligence. “No one in this world has ten years of experience in artificial intelligence,” says Franklin. “I don’t care if I am a man or a woman.”
She notes that corporate leaders can also learn from previous failures. Social media was a form of technology that was mostly built by men, and studies have not yet begun to report how harmful to users, including mothers and teenage girls.
“I think it is an incredible opportunity for women to ask the right questions, how should we bring Amnesty Internationally responsibly to the workforce, our homes and in our lives,” he asks Franklin. “We don’t want to end up with a bad result, Dystopian.”
