OpenAI Concerned That Its AI Is About to Start Spitting Out Novel Bioweapons

Openai boasts that its upcoming models are very advanced, as they may be able to build new vital weapons.

In a recent blog post, the company said that although it adopts more advanced models that will get “positive cases such as biomedical and biomedical research”, it is a duty to walk on a tight rope between “enabling scientific progress while preserving the barrier of harmful information.”

“Harmful information”, apparently, includes the ability to “help high skills actors in creating biological weapons.”

“Our approach focuses on prevention,” says the blog post. “We don’t think it is acceptable to wait and know whether the vital threat event is taking place before a decision on a sufficient level of guarantees.”

It is a noble effort enough, but it is easy to see how it can be mistaken.
