OpenAI launches Study Mode in ChatGPT

Openai announced on Tuesday the launch of the Mode of Study Mode, a new feature in ChatGPT aimed at helping students develop their critical thinking skills, rather than obtaining answers to questions. With the enabled the study mode, Chatgpt will ask user questions to test their understanding, and in some cases, he refuses to provide direct answers unless students participate in the subjects.
Openai says that the study is presented to users who were registered in free Chatgpt plans, as well as Pro and Prots and team Plas that start on Tuesday. The company expects to present the study status to its subscribers at EDU, which consists of a large extent of young people whose school official bought a plan for the entire student body, in the coming weeks.
Study mode is Openai to treat millions of students who use Chatgpt in school. Studies have shown that using Chatgpt can be a useful teacher for young people, but it may also harm the skills of critical thinking. A research paper released in June found that people who use Chatgpt to write articles show less activity in the brain during the process compared to those who use Google or nothing at all.
When ChatGPT was first launched in 2022, its use raised widely in school places fear among teachers, which led to the prohibition of artificial intelligence in many American educational areas. By 2023, some of these schools canceled the ban on ChatGPT, and teachers across the country have reached the fact that Chatgpt will be part of young people from now on.
Now with the launch of the study mode, Openai hopes to improve Chatgpt as an educational tool, not just an answer driver. Antarbur launched a tool similar to AI Chatbot Claude, which is called learning mode, in April.
Of course, there are restrictions on the effectiveness of the study mode. Students can easily switch to the normal mode of chat if they just want to answer a question. TECHRUNCH told Openai’s educing, Leah Belsky, to inform that the company does not provide tools for parents or officials to lock students in the study mode. However, Bilsky said that Openai may explore administrative controls or parents in the future.
This means that it will take a committed student to use the study mode – children must really want to learn, not only to end their mission.
