Palantir CEO Alex Karp buys Colorado monastery for record $120 million

Palantir CEO Alex Karp has purchased St. Benedict’s Monastery in Colorado, once home to Trappist monks, for $120 million.

The Aspen-area farm will become the latest in his growing list of real estate properties.

The property is located in Snowmass, Colorado, about 30 minutes from Aspen, and was originally asking $150 million when it went on the market last year, Ken Meier of Meier Ranch Group, one of the listing agents, told the Wall Street Journal.

The entire 3,700-acre property, including the convent, was sold to Karp, marking the most expensive residential sale to date in Colorado’s Pitkin County, Meier told the newspaper.

The newspaper reported that the church had been owned by Trappist monks for 70 years, although only a few of them still lived there. While Mir did not reveal the identity of the buyer, he indicated that the buyer would not use the property as a home.

Although this is a record sale, it represents only a small portion of Karp’s net worth. Karp is listed in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index among the world’s richest individuals. As of late 2025, he was the 146th richest person in the world with a net worth of just over $17 billion, according to the index.
