Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Monday that he intends to nominate US president Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in ensuring a ceasefire and hostage agreement between Hamas and Israel.

This will be the second time Pakistan has put Trump forward for the award. In June, Pakistan nominated Trump for his role in securing a ceasefire agreement between Islamabad and neighboring India.

Speaking next to Trump, Sharif said in Egypt: “Pakistan has nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his distinguished and exceptional contributions in stopping the war between India and Pakistan first and then reaching a ceasefire, along with his absolutely wonderful team.”

After announcing his intention to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, Sharif turned to the president and gave him a brief greeting.

Sharif added: “Mr. President, I would like to salute you for your exemplary and wise leadership. I believe you are the man the world needs more than ever. The world will always remember you as a man who did everything – and did his best to stop seven wars, and today eight wars.”

Last week, the Nobel Committee in Norway awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.

While introducing other world leaders, Trump appeared to rebuke Norway over last week’s selection.
