Introducing Bounce, a tool to move your following between Bluesky and Mastodon

A major development was revealed that showcases the ability of the open social network on Thursday at the online conference known as Fediforum.

Bridgy Fed, a tool that connects the decentralized open social networks, such as Mastodon and Bluesky, has developed a new project called Bounda that will allow users to deport social network followers via networks that operate with various protocols.

This is an important step towards making the open social web a more applicable alternative to the closed ecosystems provided by technology giants such as Meta, Snap, Google, Tiktok and X-and where you may be able to delete your account and export your data upon departure, but do not already deport your account to a new application.

Today, MASTODON, Bluesky and other social services that work on their protocols (Activitypub and Protocol, respectively) allow users to transfer their accounts within their protocol network.

This means that the Mastodon user can deport his account to another Mastodon server, while Bluesky allows users to transfer their accounts and data from one personal data server (PDS) to another. (This work is still continuing because you can move from the PDS from Bluesky but not to return to it!)

However, it was not possible for users to transfer their accounts or keep their follow -up by moving from one network to another.

It is now led by a non -profit organization called a new social. Bridgy Fed has developed a technology that would make this type of deportation possible.

Technology relies on Bridgy Fed to allow users to “transfer” their Bluesky account to their Mastodon account (an account listens to your Mastodon posts and then repeats them on Bluesky so that Bluesky followers can see), then take the physical account and “transition” to the user profile.

How does all this work under the cover technically complicated because both platforms have different ways to deal with deportation. For this reason, Bridgy Fed must act as a mediator, allowing its own transmission, specially designed for the purpose of bridging and moves.

Currently, it is a concept proof, technology will be launched in beta within a few weeks-but not for an informal user.

“I don’t want to go to the extent that it is a experimental offer for technology, but it was really important to prove that this is possible,” says Anouj Ahuja.

There are some complications at the present time as well. You cannot return to Bluesky because the social network has not yet established this technology, for beginners.

Also, if someone interacts on Bluesky that has not been blocked with your “moving” account, you will not see it as soon as you are on the Mastodon side. But the team works to develop an feature that will inform you of the interactions outside the bridge, says ahooja.

In addition, alert you back to the number of people you follow is not unclean, so if they do the bridge, you can re -follow them.

Ultimately, the team hopes that technology will be blocked in Bound of the daily open social user, which instead can simply decide the application they want to use, and then go through some short steps to move their follow -up.

And today, Bouason Bluesky, Mastodon and Pixelfed (which is an activity -based images an application) is supported, the long -term goal is to support any open social platform and protocol, whether it is a long blogging platform such as Ghost, or even other networks such as those that work on Nostr or FareCaster.

“We are trying to create an open social network interface to deal with some of these strict movements that you have to do,” AHooja explained. So, if you are not satisfied with something that Bluesky does – or even if you are not unhappy, but you feel that you are a platform on the side of Activitypub, doing something that you really need to do …[you could] Are these two clicks on the bounce?

The apostasy is the third project of a new social meeting. In addition to Bridgy Fed, the Foundation also launched a set of settings a few weeks ago, making the process to prepare for the dam and allows you to set a field dedicated to your account.

The general goal in a new social meeting is to transform the strength of social networks into people, not platform makers, by giving them tools that allow them to transfer their account, follow them, and leave if a platform fails at all.

This slogan of “non -platforms” is now removed on a new social march, such as toxes, covers, hats, cups, and stickers that help liquefy their efforts, along with Patriion.
