A Minneapolis-area day care facility, whose misspelled “Quality Learning Center” tag went viral after it was reported by YouTube journalist Nick Shirley in his investigation into rampant fraud in Minnesota, has corrected the notorious tag.
Shirley and another man approached a building bearing the name Center for Quality Learning (sic) in Minneapolis, where Shirley pointed out that the word “learning” was misspelled on the preschool sign outside. Business appeared inactive during the visit despite receiving government assistance money for child care. This led to allegations that the center is one of several centers participating in a large-scale fraud scheme occurring in certain sectors of the Somali community in Minnesota.
For many critics, the misspelled sign was an illustration of the fraud occurring openly in Minnesota.
Among the center’s critics was US Education Secretary Linda McMahon, who wrote on X that “a fraudulent Minnesota company that misspelled the word ‘learning’ on its building received $1.9 million this year while masquerading as a daycare.”

“There are not enough words to describe the fiasco that occurred in full view of everyone,” McMahon wrote [Gov. Tim Walz]”.
But the center has since rejected the allegations, saying it is innocent of any wrongdoing.
Fox News filmed several individuals correcting the misspelled sign late Monday night.
Earlier on Monday, Ibrahim Ali, a man who identified himself as a director at the Learning Quality Centre, strongly denied any allegations of fraud at the facility. Fox News said the center is currently open and has never closed, which contradicts statements made earlier in the day by officials at the Department of Children, Youth and Families that the center had closed earlier this month.

Ali also accused Shirley of visiting the facility before business hours, which he says are from 2 to 10 p.m. Central time, Monday through Thursday.
Shirley criticized, saying: “Are you trying to record that we are committing fraud, or are you trying to put the Somali name and fraud in one sentence? This is what has really hurt us in the past two days.”
The manager blamed the misspelling on the person who installed it, saying, “We messed up the sign. We paid someone to paint the sign. He did it incorrectly. We made him work on it. We paid him money to correct the sign. He said it would be done by this week, so by the end of this week our sign will be fine.”

The Center for High-Quality Learning also recently made news that it collected 95 violations from the state human services agency between 2019 and 2023, according to the St. Paul ABC affiliate.

Such violations range from failing to keep dangerous items away from children to not having any records in custody for more than a dozen children on the list, according to the outlet. Documents reviewed by Fox News Digital showed that the site’s current license does not expire until the end of 2026.
