President Donald Trump inks trade deal with UK, previews trade negotiations with China

President Donald Trump and his management signed a major trade deal with the United Kingdom on Thursday, and closed the week preparing for commercial talks with China during the weekend.

Details of the trade plan specified with the United Kingdom are few, but the deal keeps the current definitions by 10 % against goods in the United Kingdom with some import taxes removed on elements such as steel and cars.

“With this deal, the United Kingdom joins the United States to emphasize that reciprocity and fairness are a basic and vital principle of international trade,” Trump said on Thursday. “The deal includes billions of dollars in increasing access to markets for American exports, especially in agriculture, and increasing significant access to American beef, ethanol and all products produced by great farmers.”

Trump refers to China “largely” in securing the commercial deal before Switzerland negotiations

The deal is the first historical trade negotiations signed after liberation day, when Trump announced a widespread tariff for several countries on April 2 in a range of prices.

The administration later adjusted its initial proposal and announced on April 9 that it would immediately impose a 145 % tariff on Chinese goods, while reducing mutual definitions in other countries for 90 days to the foundation line by 10 %. China has responded by raising tariffs on American goods to 125 %.

Trump also took an insight into commercial negotiations with China, given that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to start commercial negotiations with China in Switzerland on Saturday.

“Scott will go to Switzerland and meet China,” Trump told reporters on Thursday at the White House. “As you know, they want to conclude a deal. We can all play games. Who did the first call, who did not make it? This does not matter. It only matters to what is happening in that room. But I will tell you that China wants to conclude a deal a lot. We will see how that succeeds.”

A meeting with the Prime Minister in Canada

Trump also doubled his interest in expanding the United States during a visit on Tuesday with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carne.

Trump regularly said he wanted Canada to become an American state, and discussed Greenland and Panama channel for security purposes. However, the issue of Canada is not open to negotiation.

“After they met the owners of Canada over the campaign in the past few months, it was not for sale,” Carney said at the White House on Tuesday. “It will not be for sale at all, but the opportunity in partnership and what we can build together. We have done so in the past, and part of that, as the president only said, regarding our security, and my government is committed to changing a step in our Canadian security investments and partnership.”

Carney says that Canada is not for sale, Trump replied, “Never say.”

While Trump admitted that Canada was intensifying its investments in military security, “never less” in response to Canada to become another country.

“I had a lot and many things that were not implemented, and they ended up being executed,” Trump said.

A meeting with a ballet dancer freed from the Russian prison

Trump also met the Russian -American ballet, Ksenia Carlina, at the White House on Monday. Carlina faced a 12 -year prison sentence in a Russian punitive colony for treason in 2024, but the Trump administration negotiated its return to the United States during the US prisoner’s swap in April.

Carlina, a resident of Los Angeles, was born in Russia, was arrested in 2024 during a family visiting family in Yatrinburg, Russia. The federal security service in Russia was arrested after examining its phone and finding a donation of a US -based charitable association that supports Ukraine.
