A look at the trade profiles of the 14 countries named in Trump’s tariffs letter

Fourteen countries were granted until August 1 to negotiate commercial deals with the Trump administration or risk to impose high definitions.

While the majority of the new definitions announced on Monday reflect the rates proposed by the president Donald Trump In April, Los and Burma are scheduled to face 40 % higher tax.

Trump announces 25 % of the customs tariff in Japan, South Korea

Bangladesh

Main exports: Co -shirts, suits and coherent jackets.

impact: Bangladesh’s economy depends greatly on the American market. Bangladesh, the world’s second largest clothing exporter, is estimated at $ 8.4 billion from goods to the United States in 2024, according to data from the American Trade Representative. Nearly 80 % of the total export profit in Bangladesh is supported by the clothing industry, which also employs about 4 million people.

Meanwhile, US exports to Bangladesh decreased in 2024 to $ 2.2 billion, a decrease of 1.5 % or about 34 million dollars from 2023.

Cambodia

Main exports: Kind jackets, shoes, travel goods.

Laos

tariff: 40 %.

impact: Laos, which is slightly larger than Utah, has a heavy economy moved by export and largely depends on the Chinese and Thai market. Trump originally suggested a 48 % tariff in a country of Southeast Asia in April, but recently decreased to 40 %.

South Africa

Main exports: Gold, minerals and charcoal briquettes.

2024 Export value: 14.7 billion dollars.

Commercial relationship value: 20.5 billion dollars.

tariff: 30 %.

impact: South African President Cyril Ramavusa quickly retracted Trump’s tariff, saying that the number depends on inaccurate commercial data between the two countries. Ramavusa added that he will continue to participate in commercial talks with the Trump administration. The United States is the second largest trading partner in South Africa, behind China.

Thailand

Main exports: Cars, electronics, machines, agriculture.

2024 Export value: 63.3 billion dollars.

Commercial relationship value: 81.0 billion dollars.

tariff: 36 %.

impact: The best commercial partners in Thailand are the United States, followed by China. In 2024, Thailand exported $ 63.3 billion to the United States and imported US goods $ 17.7 billion. Bangkok offered more commercial privileges for Washington in order to avoid a 36 % collective tariff.
