Quality failures catch up with MEIL: NHAI crackdown signals no immunity for electoral bonds donor

Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (Meil) – the second largest buyer of electoral bonds that have now been postponed – from participating in national highway tenders in India (NHAI), was organized, after a significant failure of construction on the 66th national highway in Kerala state. The company is a candidate in multiple central infrastructure projects – from roads and bridges to metro systems and defense production.
This procedure stems from the collapse of the slope protection work along Chenkalla-Nilsuram in the Kasarajud area on June 16, 2025. NHI investigation has blamed the incorrect design, insufficient slope stability, and bad sewage systems. The company must now rebuild the failed extension of its own cost and continue to maintain the road for 15 years under its contract.
This development comes a few weeks after another dangerous failure on the same highway, along Ramnatukara – birth, where the augmented soil wall collapsed due to defective foundation. The repercussions of this incident led to the suspension of a senior regional officer in NHI.
The Minister of the Federation for Land Transport and Quick Roads, Al -Nayatan Gadkari Green, to the disciplinary measures of NHAI against the company indicating a campaign. “The government is committed to providing quality and safe infrastructure, and we are working to raise road quality standards. Meanwhile, Meil problems are not limited to central contracts. In the state of Maharashtra, Olteskra Greentek, Ltd., faced the group’s electrical navigation arm, threatening to end the contract on the alleged lapses in a 10,000 -Cruisted electric bus tender. The episode was crowned with the resignation of CMD KV Pradeep from Octra.
According to the data from the election committee, Meil bought election bonds worth 966 rupees between 2019-23.
