Rangers could sign experienced forward who Roy Keane said is a “nuisance”
The Champions League-winning striker is ‘one to watch’ for Rangers, with Danny Ruhl planning an exciting January transfer window at Ibrox.
Roll is furious after Rangers’ unfortunate defeat
The Ruhl era got off to a disappointing start on Thursday evening, as the Gers lost 3-0 away to Brann in the Europa League, continuing their dreadful start to the season.
Speaking after the match, the new Rangers manager was not amused by what he saw from his players, as he took stock of the defeat and apologized to the fans.
“(At the end) I first apologized (to the fans) for this defeat and the performance. They travel a lot for the team and they are always there. This club has a lot of passionate fans and they deserve it. It was very important for me to show that I understand them. I also told them that I am working hard to improve this group of players and achieve results.”
“It was a great welcome before the game. Then you were hoping you could give them the three points straight away and feel good. So it makes me feel sad that I couldn’t. That was the reason I went to them to give them the great respect they deserve. That’s my job. We have to understand that our fans are very patient and you can’t expect that they are always happy with us when we give a performance like this.”
Thursday’s loss was further evidence that plenty of added quality is needed for Rangers’ squad, whether it be in January or next summer, and a high-profile name has been linked with a move to Ibrox, amid reports that Andrew Cavenagh is set to back up Ruhl in January.
Rangers backs signing of Champions League winner
talk on Live hotline [via Ibrox News]Daily Record journalist Daniel Cow has spoken out about the idea of Rangers signing RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, partly due to his relationship with new first-team performance director Sascha Lens.
“Linus is Werner’s father-in-law, the new Rangers [performance manager]. So maybe that’s something worth seeing.”
Werner would be an eye-catching addition for Rangers, with the RB Leipzig man winning the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, as well as scoring 24 goals in 57 for Germany.
Now 29, his best days may be behind him, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be a powerful weapon, even the picky Roy Keane has praised him in the past.
“He’s a nuisance to play against, isn’t he, Werner. There are question marks about his final product and everything else, his final pass. But he affects games, he’s a threat.”
Hopefully the Lens factor will come in handy for Rangers, and if they sign Werner in January, he will give Ruhl a massive boost midway through the season. However, whether he wants to leave one of the top clubs in Leipzig is up for debate.
