Rare earth minerals at center of US-China trade talks after export drop

On Monday, US and China officials met to start a two -day session to discuss improving trade relations and increase the removal of trade war.

The details of the meeting have not yet appeared, although a source told Fox Business that the discussions lasted for nearly seven hours and prompted the delegations to request dinner, as they continued to negotiations.

Treasury Secretary Scott Beesen described this event as a “good meeting”, while Trade Minister Howard Lootnick said it was “fruitful”.

The meeting, which will continue tomorrow, comes just four days after president Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping made a phone call for the first time since Trump’s re -introduction and then struck Beijing by 145 %.

Although China initially responded with 125 % mutual definitions, the two sides agreed to temporarily reduce the trade conflict for 90 days last month, as negotiators worked to improve trade relations, and temporarily put them in a 30 % tariff on Chinese goods, while Beijing implemented a 10 % tariff on American lying.

White House economic advisor Kevin Haysit said on Monday that rare Earth minerals will be at the heart of what the administration hopes to get out of this round of talks, especially after China accused of slow exports of critical minerals.

China last month dropped its rare Earth’s supplies by approximately 50 % from the previous year, while some reports suggested it was a step to highlight the Trump card when it comes to valuable elements.

“The purpose of the meeting today is to ensure that they are serious, but literally get a handshake,” Haysit, director of the National Economic Council, told CNBC on Monday. “We expected that after shaking hands … any export controls will be reduced from the United States and the rare land will be launched in size, then we can return to negotiating smaller matters.”

Haysit said that Trump and Shiqan have discussed the issue of rare Earth’s exports and magnets, which is controlled by China about 90 %, which is necessary for major industries such as cars and technology.

The director said that the slowdown in export could disrupt companies through the economy and indicated that Trump took the case “seriously.”

Despite the president’s assurances that customers will not be shocked by the poster out of exit, rare land minerals were not the only element that achieved great success.
