president Donald Trump will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday in the latest attempt to end four years of war.

Zelensky will meet Trump in Florida at the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, where he spent most of his time during the holiday period. The Ukrainian leader stressed the need to negotiate from a position of strength in a public statement issued before their meeting.

Russian and Ukrainian negotiations have repeatedly collapsed over where the final territorial lines in the peace agreement will fall.

He continued: “In this war that Russia is waging against Ukraine, we want peace, and Russia is showing its desire to continue the war. If the whole world – Europe and America – stands with us, we will stop Putin together. Because together we will want the same thing: an end to the war, peace – a natural peace, a sustainable peace, safe for the whole world.”

Zelensky warned: “If anyone – whether the United States or Europe – sides with Russia, it means that the war will continue. There are no other options here. This is a danger for all countries of the world. Because Russia will not stop, regardless of any agreements, from any eloquent messages from it. And it will not stop with Ukraine.”

Zelensky’s statement came after Russia doubled its attacks on Kiev, sending an overnight attack involving hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles on Saturday. Zelensky said the attack showed the “true position” of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his inner circle.

The overnight attack in the Ukrainian capital killed at least one person and injured 27 others, local authorities told The Associated Press.
