NYC mayor ordered to halt plan to have ICE in Rikers Island jail

A New York Judge, Mayor Eric Adams, ordered a temporary program to make immigration agents work in the city’s famous Rikeers prison in the city.
Judge Mary Rosado prevented the city from “taking any steps towards negotiating, signing or implementing any memorandum of understanding with the federal government” before a hearing on April 25 in a lawsuit challenging the plan.

The lawsuit filed against Adams came from the Democratic Continue City Council, which seeks to prevent Adams from cooperating with the Trump administration on combating illegal immigration.
The lawsuit focuses on Adams, the last executive order that allows federal immigration authorities to operate an office on Rikeers to help criminal investigations into drug trafficking, organized violence and the activity of migrant gangs that the city suffers from.
In the lawsuit, the City Council accuses Adams of engaging in illegal “Quid Pro Quo” with the Trump administration by allowing the ice to enter the city’s prison in exchange for federal corruption charges against him.
The lawsuit claims that Adams, who is running for his re -election as independent goals, gave priority to his political goals on “the laws of precious sanctuary in the city”, describing the executive system “poisoned fruit for the mayor’s deal with the Trump administration.”

Adams previously announced that the vice -mayor of the first mayor, Randy Mastro, will start to deal with all decisions when the ice returns to Rikeers Island in order to “make sure that there is never any conflict.”
Mastro said last week that discussions with the federal government about the plan were ongoing.

Ice had previously had a presence in Rikeers, but the agency was banned from the prison complex in 2014 under the laws of the New York City Reserve that limits cooperation with the application of immigration.
