Mrs. Sarah Mulali was called the Bishop of Cantirry, the head of the Cantirberi bishops, to become the first woman to serve as the Church of the Great Church of England.

The Cabinet Office said on Friday that King Charles approved the appointment of Molali, the bishop of London since 2018, to lead the Anglican community, which is 85ml in the world.

This historic announcement comes after months of deliberations by the Crown Nominations Committee after the resignation of Justin Welby in November 2024, with women eligible for a large position for the first time.

Welby, who was the head of the Canterbury bishop for nearly 12 years, resigned, after stressing his role in the failure of the England Church to stop the years of sexual and physical attacks by a aggressor child linked to the institution.

Stephen Cotrell, the head of York’s bishops, temporarily assumed most of Wilby’s responsibilities, but he soon faced calls to stand on himself because of his dealings with a separate sexual abuse case.

In February, Cotrill admitted that the Church of England was facing “difficult and difficult times” in the wake of multiple protection failures, but he said he was “designed … to make the necessary changes that prevent these failures at all again.”

No candidates have been officially named as part of the selection process. But Mullali, who called for “basic protection reform” after Wilby’s resignation, was seen as a partial pioneering competitor because her role is London Bishop, which made her the third large bishop behind Welby and Cotler.

In a speech in the Canterbury Cathedral on Friday, Moulaly said that the Church of England “often failed to seriously take power of power in all its forms” and pledged to “enhance the culture of safety and welfare for all.”

Mali added: “This will not be easy. We have left our history in protecting failures a legacy from deep harm and lack of confidence, and we must all be ready to shed light on our actions,” as it condemned the “horrific violence” of the attack of the Manchester Church on Thursday.

Before she became the first bishop in London, Moulaly, 63, was a nurse of cancer and worked as senior nursing officials in England. Potter Haris, she became Christian at the age of 16 and was appointed as a priest in 2002.

Mulloll, which is a strong opposition to proposals to legitimacy to death in England and Wales, will be officially installed in March 2026. She will be the first woman to work as bishops on the date of the 1400 -year -old role, after Augustine arrived from Canterbury to Kent from Rome in 597.

The 17-member Crown Nominations Committee-chaired by former Mi5 president Lord Jonathan Evans and included Cotler, Bishops and Ordinary members-in May, July and September to discuss the candidates.

Women were eligible to look for the first time after the approved base changes during the period of Willi, who allowed women to become bishops.

Some of the figures of the Church of England criticized CNC, unlike months of her meetings with the two days that the Cardinate star has taken to elect Pope Leo XIV as president of the Catholic Church in May.

In the “needs statement” in June, the diocese of Canterbury said that the next bishop must be “a person of the utmost integrity” who can speak to “social and political issues that affect the most vulnerable in our society.”

He added that the person will need to “embrace” both supporters and opponents of gay marriage, which is one of the most angry topics in the England Church. Unlike some other churches within the Anglican company, which includes 85 million people, couples of the same sex cannot marry in the Church of England, although they can receive blessing prayers.

Mullali, who brought out the debate that led to the approval of Al -Baraka prayers in 2023, described the change at the time as a “moment of hope”.
