Shea Lacey “tearing it up” in Man Utd training and impressing Ruben Amorim

Shea Lacey has been ‘tearing it up’ in Manchester United training, impressing Ruben Amorim, following a manager change behind the scenes.

Amorim has blended youth and experience into his starting XI so far this season, with the likes of Amad Diallo and Lenny Euro emerging as regular starters, alongside Casemiro, and the Brazilian midfielder has enjoyed a resurgence.

For now, the manager appears to have found the right balance, with United winning three successive Premier League matches, and their summer signings have been particularly impressive, with Brian Mbeumu scoring a brace against Brighton & Hove Albion last time out.

Given that Matthews Cunha is now out of goal, it may be difficult for any other striker to force his way into contention, but the youngster is starting to impress in first-team training…

As reported by GiveMeSport, Amorim has made a change behind the scenes by introducing more and more young players into first-team training, with the manager keen to restore the link between the academy and the first team.

The 40-year-old wants youngsters to start pushing for first-team places, and Lacey, the 18-year-old winger, has impressed staff and team-mates, with one source saying: “He was just tearing it up – fearless, creative and always looking to achieve something. He really caught the eye.”

Amorim has personally taken notice of the young star, and there is a feeling he could be introduced into the matchday squad before the end of the season if he maintains his current form.

Bringing in young players is ingrained in United’s DNA, with the ‘Class of 92’ famously playing a key role in Manchester United’s dominance of English football during the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

As such, it’s always good to see youngsters progressing through the ranks, and the Liverpool-born winger is held in high regard by scout Jacek Kulig, who heaped praise on the Englishman following his debut for the Three Lions’ Under-17s.

Not only has Lacey impressed in first-team coaching, but he has also made an impressive start in the Premier League 2 this season, scoring two goals and an assist in his first four appearances.

As impressive as Mbeumo and Cunha are, the England Under-20 international may find it difficult to break into the starting line-up in the Premier League, but it would be good to see him feature in the FA Cup later this season.
