Short Questions on Dana Perino’s ‘I Wish Someone Had Told Me …The Best Advice for Building a Great Career and a Meaningful Life’ out this month

Dana Perino answers questions about her new book, “I hope someone has told me … the best advice to build a wonderful profession and a meaningful life.”

Why did you write the book?

When my mother finished reading, “Everything will be fine, – Life lessons for young women from a former young woman, she called me and said,” Wow, I hope that someone had told me all this. “I started working in the mid -sixties, when women were already entering the workforce in large numbers. They paved the way for many of us, and now we have a lot of different ways that we can take in our career.

I have found that since I left the White House and began to direct the youth that the questions are not much change – but hunger for more advice and guidance is still growing. So I decided to update my advice in the post -opinion world, and gather the best advice from the most wonderful group of consultants and mentors that I can collect in one book.

How does this book differ from previous guidance books?

“I hope that someone has told me,” is an updated version of the advice that I collected based on experience, and includes interviews with more than forty of my friends, loved ones and colleagues – including my husband, Peter McMahon, my college colleague, Andrea Aragon, and countryside music Stars Bentley, in addition to many Fox News groups. They were very generous with their time, and their suggestions are great. There is a lot of wisdom in their answers to my questions-I have opened my eyes to the success that the people have received for people around me every day. The chapters extend to questions about how to determine what you want to do in your career, ways to try and real to get promotional offers you want, managing the balance between work and life, and focusing on what really matters in your life before retirement, or if you are retiring, as my friend Stewart Verney speaks in this chapter.

Who is this book – when you think about the reader, who can you imagine?

While my last book was targeting young women, this book has a much larger audience and does not specifically target women. I included advice from a wide range of people so that I can get the largest possible number of views on the book. I think I will be a better teacher now after I put in one rich new store.

Here I think he will benefit from a reading “I hope someone has told me”:

– Usually, young people are trying to know what they want to do and what industry they want to go

– Young job lovers who go to their first promotion and try to climb to the next stairs on the ladder

– Establishing your position in the workforce and achieving this next level of success in management, as a businessman, or on the executive path

New parents who try to know how to deal with work and family responsibilities

– Anyone who feels burned and wondering about changing professions

– Managers who are looking for new ways to provide guidance to their employees – to help training, encourage and recruit talents.

– Those who are looking for a greater meaning in their lives after their career

Was there a advice I collected in the interviews that helped you think about things differently?

I learned a lot. Like how to deal with disappointment and rejection better; How to remain curious and to be a person who continues to grow, and how to laugh at conditions instead of stumbling from them.

In particular, for example, I liked how McCalaum said that when she was working on TV and raising her three young children, who did not allow herself to think more than three months. This is an excellent and practical advice suitable for anyone – even those who do not have children (but with Percy!).

I think I will be a better teacher now after I put in one store of the new rich advice that I can use to inform my thinking.

What is the best advice you received ever?

This is a selection to be loved not a specific decision in the job. In 1997, when I met Peter on a plane (this happens, I swear!), I was very worried about what would happen to the career of my career if I moved to England to marry him – an eighteen -year -old man of the elderly who divorced him twice before, and someone I only knew about some spontaneity. I was very busy with what others think of me, and how they will judge me, if you choose to go to it. A family friend pulled me aside on Christmas and asked me what was going on with Peter and I. I explained my hesitation. She said, “Do not give up this opportunity to be loved. This may be the only snapshot,” she said. The boy was right. This decision was made the best in my life. Twenty -eight years later, we are still together, and we gave ourselves to the point that we are close to not meeting that day. I almost missed this trip, and Peter was almost early. We were appointed seats next to each other as a gift from God that we could never pay. The best we can do is transfer this advice to everyone – choosing to be loved helped in making my career possible. Without him, I haven’t done what I had yet – and nothing I would have done at all if I had no participation with me.

What do you wish for someone to tell you?

I hope that someone has told me that you do not have to worry in my twenties – that, as an educated American woman, I had already won the great lottery in life. Anxiety was a waste of time and my greatest hope is for readers to take away some practical advice that they could apply for their lives to ensure that they get the most of their time on Earth. It goes very quickly – and I will buy the minutes of anyone if you can. Since this is impossible, I am determined to make the most of the time I have here.
