Son of Brazil’s indicted ex-president Bolsonaro lobbies Trump camp

The son of the former president, Geor Bolsonaro, is pressuring the Trump administration because of his father’s “persecution” for leading a coup plot, and he argued that the judge is leading the case to suit the criteria of US sanctions.

Eduardo Bolsonaro, a member of the Federal Congress in Brazil, said that Trump’s US officials and legislators were accepting his arguments that Luiz Inosio Lula da Silva-a democratically elected left-wing president-was “crushing” the conservative opposition and withdrawing the country towards replacement.

Last month, senior Public Prosecutor Gear Bolsonaro was accused of leading a plot to seize power after losing the 2022 presidential elections against Lula.

Investigators claimed that the conspirators, including senior military officers, were aimed at killing Lula, his vice president Geraldo Alkain and the Supreme Court judge Alexander de Mora. The Supreme Court may hear the case from next month.

Eduardo told the Financial Times in a video interview: “Jair Bolsonaro is already convicted.” “It is very likely that they will try to kill him in prison or will never leave prison. The only thing I can do is go out and scream to the world about what is happening in Brazil. The country is washed in dictatorship.”

He claimed that he was not asking for direct intervention in the United States in his father’s case, only to “restore democracy and freedom.”

Eduardo Bolsonaro said that he was not personally pressed for the Trump administration to apply sanctions on De Moray, but he added: “Speaking as a member of Congress with parliamentary immunity, Alexander de Morais has fulfilled more than circumstances [US Treasury] Penalties. . . It is not the one who will make him punish him, he is his own behavior. “

A member of Congress refused to say any US administration officials he met during three trips in Washington in January and February, or to provide details about the talks, but he said, “All the meetings we request are accepted,” noting that he had close relations with the Trump camp for years.

Jair Bolsonaro was unable to accept a call to Trump’s inauguration because de Morris forced him to deliver his passport, considering him the danger of the trip.

Brazilian prosecutors now weigh whether they will take the passport of Eduardo’s passport after two lawmakers from Lula have accused him of “crimes against national sovereignty” of claiming pressure against the Brazilian Supreme Court in the United States.

Eduardo described their efforts as an attempt to “silence me.”

President Donald Trump was friendly with Gear Bolsonaro while they were in office from 2019 to 2020. Trump Eduardo mentioned at the Governor’s Conference last month in Washington, and thanked the Congress member and told him: “Say welcome to your father. A great family!”

Eduardo Bolsonaro claimed in his speech at the conference that Brazil has become “a test of a court weapon against conservative and Christian liberals, always under the pretext of the noble of” Protection of Democracy “.

Indeed, there are signs of diplomatic tension.

Last month, the Trump media group joined us on the video sharing platform in a lawsuit against De Moray in Florida, accusing him of “regional censorship”.

After that, the Brazilian justice banned the Dammuma in the country of South America for its failure to comply with the judicial rulings, including the demand for the ban of a US -based Brazilian citizen’s account. But the judge in Florida said that de Mora’s orders had no legal power in the United States.

The following week, the US State Department attacked Brazil because of its legal battles with American social media companies. She said: “Preventing access to information and imposing fines on US -based companies to refuse to monitor people living in the United States is not compatible with democratic values.”

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had rejected “any attempt to politicize the decisions of the court” and accused the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of “distorting the meaning [Brazil] Supreme Court decisions.

De Moraaes is a controversial figure in Brazil who led a large -scale judicial campaign on “fake news”. Supporters say that his orders to download jobs and accounts helped to save democracy, but opponents accuse him of overcoming and targeting conservatives.

Eduardo has argued that the American Magnitsky Law, which is depicted to punish Russian officials due to grave human rights violations, can be used against de Morris because of his actions against freedom of expression and political opponents in Brazil.

The former son of the former president said that he learned from how Trump fights his legal battles that “do not work on these cases of legal persecution within the field of courts. You have to work on everything politically.”

A person with links to Trump camp suggested that Eduardo was on a road. They said: “It is the US government’s policy that is fighting against censorship.”

Prosecutors have put the case against Gear Bolsonaro on an indictment from 272 pages, saying they had evidence of the alleged coup plot for 2022, including recognition by a former Bolsonaro assistant. Polsonaro supporters stormed the presidential palace and Congress in the following month, as they occupied and sabotaged the buildings before their arrest.

Eduardo mocked the indictment, noting that the rebellion in Brazilia occurred on Sunday when government buildings were empty, had it not been outside the city and his father was in Florida.

“What kind of coup?” He asked. “It is effective like two attempts to shoot a bullet from my mobile phone. This is the so -called” impossible crime. “

It is still challenging. “We don’t have an option,” he said. “Our only option is to continue walking through the Valley of Death with a lot of faith in God and doing the right thing.”
