Spirit Airlines files for bankruptcy second time in less than a year

After submitting a bankruptcy request less than a year ago, Spirit Airlines passes the same process again after a failed reorganization of the troubled flyer, the company said on Friday.

The president of the airline and CEO, Dave Davis, wrote in an open letter to customers that the restructuring of Chapter 11 “will ensure long -term success for our company so that we can continue to serve our guests in the future.”

Rouh added that “every main airline has used these tools to improve its business and put them in order to succeed in the long run,” Rouh added.

The airline first has submitted bankruptcy in November after two of the previous two years failed with Frontier and Jetblue.

Spirit, a low -cost airline, struggled to compete with other major airlines that provide different levels of service and fly to more destinations.

The airline confirmed to customers that it will continue to work normally during the bankruptcy process, and travelers can use tickets, credits and loyalty points on flights.

“Our team members are still focusing on providing a safe trip, with excellent service and high experience,” said Davis.

The airline is trying to use the brand itself more than our premium, as customer preferences have turned over low cost, but they fought with budget discounts and reduce the demand that was created by uncertainty in the economy.

Davis said earlier this month: “Since the exit from our previous restructuring, which has been targeting exclusively to reduce the debts funded by the soul and raise the share capital, it has become clear that there is a lot of work to do, and that many other tools are available for the best spirit in the future.”

The transportation company at the Securities and Stock Exchange Committee, which is still affected by “harmful market conditions”, including the continuous demand for local entertainment travel in the second quarter of 2025, said that the ongoing challenges created a “difficult pricing environment”.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the airline may get rid of some aircraft and reduce the number of destinations that fly to them.

“This afternoon, Spirit Airlines announced a comprehensive restructuring of the airline to set work for long -term success,” SPIRIT told Fox Business. “To facilitate this process, the company provided voluntary petitions for Chapter 11 in the American Banking Court of the southern region of New York.”
