Texas bill to ban social media for minors would be among nation’s strictest

A draft law that makes its way through the Legislative Commission in Texas will prevent minors from accessing famous social media applications and web sites in an attempt to limit what the legislator says is an addictive and “harmful” producer.
Republican MP Jared Patterson, the 186th parliament Bill, approved the Texas House with the support of the two parties last month and it appears that he is about to be paid by the state’s Senate on his way to the office of Gregpot Governor.
In an interview with Fox News Digital on Monday, Patterson said that the bill came by speaking with multiple committees and with parents who have young children about the impact of popular social media sites such as X, Tiktok, Facebook and Snapchat on children.
These committees and talks came during the last two religious people in the legislative body of the state, which studied the issue of social media and minors.

The draft law will prevent 186 minors from participating in accounts on social media, and the parents’ approval of downloading applications and setting warning stickers about social media risks requires.
Web sites that allow users to create content will be considered and shared a social media platform and thus are banned from minors.
However, news and sports web sites will be available to minors.
While Texas is not the first state to put some restrictions on the arrival of minors to social media platforms, it will now be the most stringent.
As of June 2024, there are 10 states with law restricting laws on minors social media, according to the Association for Age Verification.

Currently, Florida only has laws that prevent the palace from using social media, but its laws are not strict as the proposed Texas Bill 186.
Florida is 14 years old, while the proposed limit for Texas will be for those under the age of 18.
However, Patterson said that the age restriction was not placed in the stone.
“We’ll see what is happening with the Senate. When [the bill] Leave the house, people under the age of 18 will be banned from social media. “There was wide support from the two parties when the bill left the Texas house,” Patterson said.[The Senate has] All the right to adjust it to everything he needs to get out of this body. “

Regardless of the changes made, Patterson said he still feels that protecting children is the first priority and that parents will realize exactly what is happening.
“It begins with an understanding that these parents do not represent an opportunity against these algorithms,” he said. “It also begins to understand parents that these applications are not for friends to share information with friends; they are designed to harvest data and connect people to their products.”

Patterson said that Texas will continue to “stand in the gap and protect these children, even when social media companies reject this appearance.
“They refuse to answer the damage they caused, and they do not even care about answering the questions in a general forum about what they did to our children.”
