State Department confirms American death in Kyiv following Russian attack

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tami Bruce confirmed at a press conference on Wednesday that an American citizen was among the 15 of the 15 drones killed and missile strikes in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, on Tuesday.
In response to the question of a reporter about American diplomats in Kiev, they were forced to spend the night in a hideout, Bruce said, “We can confirm the death of an American citizen in Ukraine.”
She said: “We are aware of the attack last night on Kiev, which resulted in many victims, including the tragic death of an American citizen, noting that we condemn these strikes and expand our deepest condolences to the victims and the families of all the affected.”
Bruce did not provide any other details about the identity of the citizen who was killed by Russian strikes, noting “the family’s respect during this terrible time clearly.”

She pointed out that “the president in the recent past has made clear his ideas about hitting the civilian areas in this regard” and reiterated that “the thread in all the work we do is that the department has no priority than the safety and security of American citizens abroad.”
She added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs “stands[s] Ready to provide all possible consular assistance. “
The Associated Press reported that 15 people were killed and 156 wounded in the Russian shelling of Kev, which lasted for nearly nine hours. According to the port, Russia launched more than 440 drones and 32 missiles, making it a bloody attack on the Ukrainian capital this year.
Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinsky posted on X that six other Ukrainian regions – Odessa, Zaborisvia, Chernehif, Zahitomer, Kirovurad and Mecolay – were also injured during the attacks.

This comes at a time when world leaders in Canada converge to the G7. President Donald Trump attended the first day of the summit but left early to deal with the increasing conflict of Iran and Israel.
Trump criticized former President Barack Obama and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for the year 2014 “a very big mistake” when Russia was removed from the Group Eight Summit, which Trump argued that it would have been more war from separating between Russia and Ukraine.
“G7 used to be G8. Barack Obama and a person named Trudeau did not want to get Russia,” Trump said on Monday from Canada, where he joined Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
“I would like to say this was wrong because I think you will not have a war at the moment if you have Russia. You will not have a war now if Trump was president four years ago,” Trump continued. “But she did not succeed in this way. But she was G8.”
