State passes first-of-its-kind law banning food dyes and preservatives statewide

West Virginia will start banning some artificial dyes and additives used in foodstuffs sold in the state after the passage of the draft , which represents the most comprehensive effort to regulate food components at the state level.
The governor of the state, Patrick Morrisi, a Republican, signed on Monday the draft law of the House of Representatives 2354 in the law, which will be implemented on a gradual basis.
Starting August 1, seven different industrial food dyes will not be allowed to use in school lunch. Starting January 1, 2028, the same food dyes and two additional food preservatives will not be allowed in any food products sold in the state.
Red dye No. 3, red dye No. 40, yellow dye number 5, yellow dye No. 6, blue dye number 1, blue dye number 2 and green dye No. 3 will all be banned from school lunch meals that begin in August. The same food dyes will then be banned, in addition to the preservatives that are sold in the state sold in the state in 2028.

While many states have been introduced or approved similar bills, West Virginia coincides with the broader and more sweeping procedures on this issue by any state, according to local and national media reports. Supporters of the Western Virginia State Bill have suggested that the step will help improve health results, especially for children, but those who oppose them will lead to high food prices.

Maurci said after signing the new draft law: “Western Virginia is occupied at the bottom of many public health standards, which is why there is no better place to lead the Make Make America mission again.” “By getting rid of harmful chemicals from our food, we take steps towards improving the health of our residents and protecting our children from health challenges and long -term learning.”
Moressy also thanked the Minister of Health and Humanitarian Services Robert F. Kennedy Junior and Trump Administration “to help us launch this movement here in West Virginia.”
Earlier this month, Kennedy has instructed the FDA officials to explore the potential changes in “generally recognized materials as safe) that apply the organizational classification to food added materials. Kennedy has always been a supporter of food safety and said, as the Secretary of HHS, he wanted to promote “radical transparency” on this issue.

“We want foods from food,” Kennedy told Fox News earlier this month.
The issue is not quite fame, too. In January, during the reign of former Joe Biden, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) canceled its license to the 3rd dye number 3 after pressure from consumer defenders.

However, the American Beverage, a leading national commercial organization representing the best non -alcoholic beverage companies in the country, said that the new Virginia State Bill will significantly limit consumer options, increase the prices of grocery stores, and affect jobs and impose new costs on companies.

“We want to be really clear about the impact of this comprehensive ban, it will harm West Virginia, consumers, workers and public economy, in all components that have proven safe,” said Merridith Potter, US Vice President of American Drinks.

Potter added: “West Virginia deserves choice, information and facts, not fear,” Potter added. “This bill will take options from West Virginia by eliminating products in almost every corridor for the grocery store.”
