Strange New Worlds’ Most Overlooked Character Is Finally Getting The Spotlight

Security alert! This article contains Spoilers For season 3, Episode 3 of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.”
There is a full collection of amazing old characters on “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”, which ranges from Spock from ETHAN PECK on SPOCK half a half volcanoes to the wonderful nurse Jess Bush chapel, and it can make it a little difficult for new characters in the privilege. It is also a shameful thing, because one of the best characters in “strange new worlds” is also the most zeal: Lieutenant Melissa Navia Erica Ortegas. Helmsman of the USS Enterprise is a great and confident pilot who can do amazing things, and unfortunately, she often took a back (metaphorical) back seat to the rest of the crew when it comes to time and stories.
While the second season gave Ortegas fans more than Fabulous Flier, it was not really enough. Fortunately, the book and producers of the show listen, because the third season gives Ortegas a chance to shine really. In episode 3, “Shuttle to Kenfori”, Ortegas must overcome its recent fears and shocks in order to achieve almost impossible and protect the life of the entire establishment’s crew during a bold rescue attempt. It is a great small arc for Ortegas, with we hope more will come in the last two seasons.
Ortigas faces her concerns and fluctuates in the third season
After being arrested by The Gorn at the end of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” season two, Ortegas and many other crew members had to try to survive and fight in the first show of the third season, “hegemony, part two”. These are very painful things, even for a person who fought in the Union War. Therefore, it’s not surprising when you are a little more screaming than usual during the employee meeting, and the first lieutenant Ona Chen (Rebecca Romgen) says the same amount when the Lieutenant Nunin Singh indicates that Ortigas was intertwined on the border line. Although Ona is satisfied with taking the advice of Lieutenant Spock and slowly dealing with the planet, where Captain Pike (Anason Mount) and Dr. Mbinga (Babz Ulusanmopon) are required to save so that they do not cause an accident with the nearby Clingon ship, Ortigas is concerned that cautiously will be cautious and the doctor will get.
Ona again challenges the bridge, and asks her why she is very concerned about offensive to Clingons, a clear moment of rebellion. However, Klingons solves the problem for her, by noticing the slow -moving institution and raising its shields, forcing Ona’s hand. This means that Ortegas gets a chance to use it (it is Muslim to be somewhat reckless), and it gets a real moment of brilliance that is confident of the Bakshi pilot.
Enterprise pilot gets some of the wonderful moments
While being dialectical with her superiors is not quite typical for Ortegas, there are great personal moments that overcome throughout the episode even before you get her shot in GLory. During the staff meeting, when Ona asks her if she had already done the maneuver she suggests, Ortigas quickly responds, “No, but I can.” It is pure experimental and it is perfect, because her confidence in her skills as a pilot is what makes her at the most exhausting moments in the episode. Just as she managed to overcome her dangerous wounds in “hegemony, the second part” in order to help everyone escape, she managed to overcome her memories of those moments for Manuever ship in incredible ways.
The big heroic moment comes when Ortegas, with the help of Martin Quinn, is in the orbit of the planet and flying without reaching the atmosphere of thick planets just below it and tearing the ship from each other, allowing to wander in Scotty to the captain and the doctor out of danger. Nevertheless, Ortegas’s vision accepts her grip and then balance the console twice before telling her colleague from the crew that “it is rituals” and hear her friend, Litanant Newta Uhour (Celia Rose, good) she continues as she fly before telling her not to do this again as more moments because she shows a lot of Ortigas. We hope to see more of them in the rest of the season and in the last two seasons, because they are on the way to joining the ranks of the wonderful “Star Trek” characters.
