Sununu, on a potential 2026 Senate campaign in key battleground, and his relationship with Trump

Newfields, nh – Chris Sunono, the former New Hampshire governor, says he is holding a dialogue with the Republican National Leaders about the possibility of his operation next year in the race against behind retired democratic Jin Shaheen.
Sonono, who has a large national identification file, thanks to its usual manifestations in the past few years on cable news and dialogue programs on Sunday, said in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital that it aims to make a decision on the 2026 campaign in the next few weeks.
“I have no doubt that I have the president’s support,” said the former ruler, who was two years ago from the Republican audio critic of President Donald Trump.
Why does this democratic Senator not nominate for a long time for his re -election next year?

Sonono, who was elected and re -elected to four consecutive periods for two years as a ruler of the main New England, “I have no doubt that I can win.”
Al -Shaheen, 78, who is the first woman in the history of the country to win the elections as an American ruler and a American affiliation, announced this week that it will retire at the end of next year instead of seeking a fourth six -year period in the Senate.

Even before Shaheen’s announcement, her seat was in Swing New Hampshire, one of the best chances of the Republican Party in Midterms for the year 2026-alongside Michigan, where Senator Gary Peters also retires and Georgia, where Republicans are the Senator John Osov, the weak-as the Republicans hope to expand their current scope 53-47.

Sonono’s comments in recent interviews are a shift from last year, when he repeatedly said that he would not seek to run for the Senate in 2026.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, the ruler at the time repeated what he first said in an interview with July.

“It is certain that excluding the candidacy for the Senate in 2026. Yes, certainly not on my dance card,” Sonono said in an interview on the margins of the Republican Referees Winter meeting in Florida.
The 50 -year -old Sonono, who was first elected in 2016, was the smallest ruler in the country, again about a Senate tour in 2026 in a digital interview in Fox News in early January, on his last day in office.

“I am not planning to run for anything at the present time. I am not really, at least at least for the next two, four and six years,” he said. “Who knows what is happening on the road? But he will be on the road and nothing, nothing is planning, nothing will tolerate my family in the short term.”
But Sununu, in his interview with Fox Digital on Tuesday, participated that “some people in New Hampshire, some people in Washington, asked me to take a few weeks and think about it at this stage.”
He said: “The door is open, before adding,” not very open, to be honest. “
Among those talking to them is Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, head of the National Union’s National Committee, the arm of the Republican Party Campaign in the Senate.
“Tim is a great friend. We talked a lot, not only about running, but other opportunities.”

He described his talks as a “continuous discussion.”
Sources told Fox News that Sonono is heading to the nation’s capital in the coming days for dinner with Scott and other Senate Republicans.
Sonono four years ago expressed interest in running for the Senate against his predecessor as a ruler, Democratic Senator Maggie Hassan, who was re -elected in 2022. The popular ruler was strongly obscured by the national Republicans to take over Hassan.
But on November 9, 2021, Sonono announced that he would instead nominate for a fourth period as a ruler, which disturbed many Republicans in the country’s capital.

He strongly criticized the Senate.
“When you look at what is their job (members of the Senate) and what is the function of the ruler … it’s not close. Can you imagine me sitting within two years?” Sonono said at the time. “They are discussing and speaking, and nothing is done … This is not the world I live in.”

When asked if he had changed his opinion, Sonono replied on Tuesday, “Not really, no … I think Washington was really stagnant. Not much, not delivery.”
But with Trump’s return to the White House, Sonono pointed to “a basic change in the past two months,” which is now “talks about things that he cares about with great enthusiasm.”
These things include a balanced budget and government efficiency.
“Whether you like them or not, you have to give credit in Trump, until you last, for the people who lead this conversation, this novel. We have $ 36 trillion of debt. It’s a very real number. You are debtor. I am debtor to it. From this, the administration really leads to this effort,” Sonono argued.
He said: “This gives me hope for that … Perhaps there is an opportunity to get a leadership role in something very crucial and vital to the country, which is something I believe in with great enthusiasm, and something we have succeeded in here in New Hampshire.”
After Trump’s first term at the White House, after January 6, 2021, an attack on the Capitol in the United States by Trump supporters aimed at raising the certificate of Congress from the former President Biden’s victory in the elections for the year 2020, Sononu became a major critic of the Republican Party of Republican Party at the time.
Sonono was one of the best alternatives and supporter of the former United Nations ambassador and former Carolina governor Nikki Haley, Trump’s final competitor in the presidency of the Republican Party for the year 2024.

But he regained the Republican candidate in the general elections.
When asked about the place with Trump, Sonono said it was “a very good relationship at this stage.”
Sununu is not the only Republican who studies the Senate’s offer in New Hampshire.
Former Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts, who later lost to Shaheen in New Hampshire in the 2014 elections, is seriously considering in the 2026 race.

Brown, who worked for four years as an American ambassador in New Zealand during the first administration of President Donald Trump, held meetings with Republicans throughout New Hampshire for two months and he met several times with Republican Party officials in the country’s capital.
Brown recently met with senior political officials of the Trump administration at the White House, and Fox News Digital sources also told.

Sonono sees an opportunity-with Shaheen not seeking to re-elect-for the Republicans to the heart of the seat.
“It is an open seat,” he said.

Sonono added that “there is an opportunity” for himself, Scott Brown or another Republican candidate “to win the seat.”
Sunono said that whether it is, Brown or another candidate, he was “trying to speak to people in Washington, which helps them understand what is going on around New Hampshire, how to win here, how success, and how to find the appropriate candidates.”
