Suryakumar Yadav shockingly dropped from the team, 33-year-old named captain

India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav has been left out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy opener against Jammu and Kashmir, which starts on October 15.
The Mumbai team has already announced that veteran pacer Shardul Thakur, who has been a consistent performer for Mumbai, will be appointed as the captain of the Ranji Trophy team. This decision has been taken in accordance with Ajinkya Rahane stepping down from the role.
Meanwhile, Skipper Suryakumar Yadav is set to captain the Indian national cricket team in the shortest format of the game. Their next assignment will be on Australia’s white-ball tour, which features 5 T20I matches starting from October 29.

Suryakumar Yadav was dropped, and Shardul Thakur was named Mumbai’s captain
Mumbai Cricket Team will kick off their 2025 Ranji Trophy campaign against Jammu and Kashmir at the J&K Cricket Stadium in Srinagar. Hence they named the team for the first match, and Suryakumar Yadav was not included in it.
The Senior Selection Committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association, comprising Mr. Sanjay Patel (Chairman), Mr. Ravi Thakur, Mr. Jitendra Thackeray, Mr. Vikrant Yeligiti and Mr. Deepak Jadhav, selected the veteran and young players to represent Mumbai in the inaugural Ranji Trophy match.
This closes the door on Suryakumar Yadav’s return in the longest format of the game in India. The batsman scored 8 runs in his only Test innings, and has not been cited in any other format in international cricket other than the T20I format.
