Officials say at least 15 people, including a child, were killed after two gunmen opened fire during a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday evening. The attack occurred during Hanukkah by the Sea, a public event that attracted hundreds of families to the seaside to mark the beginning of the Jewish holiday. Authorities have now identified the shooters, aged 50 and 24. Police shot the older suspect dead at the scene, while the younger suspect was injured and taken into custody. At least 42 others were injured, some seriously, and the victims ranged in age from 10 to 87 years old.

Father and son have been identified as suspects in the fatal shooting
Authorities have since confirmed that the gunmen involved in the Bondi Beach attack were a father and son. The younger suspect, 24-year-old Naveed Akram, remains in hospital under police guard. In addition, his father, 50-year-old Sajid Akram, was shot dead during an exchange with police on Sunday. According to NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon, Sajid had been a legally licensed firearms holder for more than a decade and had six registered weapons. Everyone has now been recovered from the scene. Officials stated that neither man was known to authorities before the attack. Furthermore, investigators believe the two acted alone, with no additional suspects currently being sought.
