Actor and director Ben Stiller was among the first to speak publicly about Rob Reiner’s impact, calling the loss a “terrible loss.”
He described the legend as “one of my favorite directors,” noting that his films shaped an entire generation of moviegoers.
Stiller praised Reiner’s transition from television actor to director, saying he had emerged “from behind the huge comedic shadow of the great Carl Reiner” to produce an unparalleled series of poignant films.
“Spinal Tap is one of the best comedies of all time – the list goes on,” the comedian added, before weighing in on Reiner’s character.
Stiller described the director as a kind and caring person, who was very funny.

Many of the actors who collaborated directly with Reiner spoke frankly about their devastation.
Elijah Wood, who starred in Reiner’s 1994 film North, took to X to express his grief, writing: “I was horrified to hear of the passing of Rob Reiner and his wonderful wife.” [Michele]. Lots of love for their children and families.
Actress Roseanne Barr also echoed the disbelief, telling X that she was “absolutely shocked and horrified” when she heard the news of Reiner and Michelle’s deaths.

John Cusack, who starred in Stand By Me, described the 78-year-old as a “great guy”, while Eric Idle revealed he spoke to Reiner just hours before his death.

“Rob Reiner was a lovely man. I talked to him last night for over an hour,” Idle wrote, recalling conversations about future plans and memories of meeting the icon in 1975.
“This is absolutely terrible. I will miss him,” he added, describing Reiner as smart, talented and thoughtful.
