Tesla Executive Admits That Self-Driving Is Going Nowhere Fast

Nearly ten years ago in 2015, the increasing technology pioneer, Elon Musk, issued a bold advertisement: he will drive Tesla cars by 2017.
The billionaire was talking about vehicles with self-independence 5-designation by the Automobile Engineers Association (SAE) is usually used as a standard for a self-driving car that can drive where its passengers return without interference.
He repeated those claims in January 2016, saying: “Summon should work anywhere connected to the ground and not banned by the border” within two years. For example, if you are in Los Angeles and go down in New York, you will be able to summon it from all over the country – at least according to his vision, which many took as a gospel.
By June of that year, Musk described the autonomous referee 5 as “a solution problem.” He did this again in 2017. Once again in 2018, then next year. And the year after that.
You may see where this is going.
Now in 2025, Tesla does not look closer to the autonomy of the 5th level of 2015. Although Tesla has operated the Autopilot features collectively in the same year, it only achieved SAE level 2 – which is enough for a driver “lifting his hands from the steering wheel and allowing his car to control in certain circumstances.” (This did not prevent many car drivers from exaggerating the estimation of the capabilities of the system and death as a result.)
This is unlikely to change any time soon, according to the beginning of the beginning of the informed: Autopilot and AI, Ashok Eluswamy.
Tesla official was talking about Gopainath PodcastShow an Indian English interview, where he admitted that EV is still behind its competitors-despite more than a decade of self-driving development.
“Technically, Waymo is already performing,” Elluswamy admitted, indicating the program of independent vehicles from Google. “We are backward, perhaps a few years.”
This is although the Tesla-which was also provided-through the entire Robocab Self-Service, is supposed to walk live in Austin, Texas next June. It is not understood how this will do, because Tesla will need to show a vehicle capable of driving itself in the SAE level 4 to transport the cyclists without the need for human intervention.
So far, Musk has been unusually silent on the horizons of the 4 level vehicle.
In late 2024, Greg McGueri, Managing Director of Independent Vehicle Research at the University of Michigan, said. Media Sae Tesla “not – what I saw – is ready for the 4th level process.”
Will they be there by 2027? [UofM]”We still believe that there are some major scientific barriers,” McGueri said.
This makes the schedule that was placed in Musk for full self-driving-not to mention the Robocab-weak at best, and a ridiculous imagination in the worst case.
However, billionaire can dream.
