Texas lawmakers vote to ban hemp products in blow to $4 billion industry

Texas is about to prohibit almost all microfin cannabis products, after the Senate, which is controlled by Republicans and the House of Representatives, approved a draft law to prohibit the sale and possession of consumer materials filled with THC hemp, including editions, oils and Vapes.

This step threatens to destroy the $ 4 billion hemp industry, which includes more than 8,000 companies and tens of thousands of workers – although industrial leaders pledged legal challenges in the event that the governor of Texas signed by Greg Abbott on the law.

As of now, Abbott has not publicly returned or opposes the proposed ban, but the Texas Business Council called for not signing it.

“We urge the ruler Abbott to reject CSSB 3 and protect tens of thousands of Texas, including the veterans such as Dave and Lunny, who rely on hemp derived from hemp for their health,” the council said after a vote on Wednesday.

The House of Representatives voted to ban almost all cannabis products on Wednesday in 95-44 votes, which is an amazing reflection after it had previously made legislation that sought to organize products instead of banning them.

The state’s Senate approved the draft law (SB 3), in March with 24-7 votes.

The draft law is a top priority for the ruler, Lieutenant Dan Patrick, who described the products as a “great threat to public health”, especially for children.

“I was never more passionate about anything,” Patrick said in a video posted on social media earlier this week. He threatened to contact the legislators to the Capitol in a special session if they did not agree to the ban.

Patrick said: “If Austin leaves this session and we do not prohibit these products for the next two or three years, we will see a devastating life,” Patrick said.

He said the products are very strong and easily accessible by minors.

Only one Republican in the House of Representatives, Representative Brian Harrison, voted against the proposal.

“I think SB3 is unnecessarily cultivated by the government, restricts the freedom of adults, and it may have unintended severe consequences such as closing thousands of small companies and paying adults, who want or depend on hemp products, to more addictive and deadly drugs or to the black market.”

“SB3 exceeds the correct role of the government and may prohibit many products that President Trump has trusted in 2018.”

Critics argue that the draft law is a political play for power that will destroy small companies and increase criminal sanctions behind those marijuana.

Lucas Gilki, CEO of Hero Hero, the manufacturer of cannabis products, said he intends to file a lawsuit.

“We will prepare for the lawsuit. The Texas Business Council allocates resources for this specified purpose.”

The House of Representatives made some changes to the Senate version, so the draft law must return to the Senate for final approval unless the House of Representatives accept the original Senate version completely. Only after that he will go to the ruler of Abbott for signing or veto.

According to the Senate Bill, penalties for the possession of banned cannabis products will be more severe than the possession of marijuana.

For example, the ownership of hemp products that are not compatible with up to one year will be punished in prison. In comparison, the perfection of marijuana for less than 2 ounces is currently a misdemeanor of the category B, punishable for up to 180 days in prison.
