New e-reader
When I got back into reading, I fell in love with e-books and got free copies from the library that I would read on my Libby app. That year, for my birthday, I received a Kindle from two different people, and I never looked back. Whether they’re new readers looking for a better way to read to someone complaining about how heavy their books are, e-readers offer a great solution (and you can still get those free library books!).
Kobo
Libra color
If they have an e-reader but want the option to use color, the Kobo Libra Color is the best option. It allows them to use a range of colors while reading, and you can add a pen to turn it into a digital notebook. It has page-turn buttons, which are nice and you won’t find them on the Kindle.
Kobo
Clara color
This e-reader from Kobo is the same price as the Kindle Paperwhite, but it comes with a color display. It’s smaller at 6 inches than the basic Kindle, and I love how lightweight it is. It’s a great color e-reader on a budget if you don’t want the pen-and-notebook feature of the Libra.
Amazon
Kindle Paperwhite (2024, 12th generation)
If they don’t have a Kindle, the Paperwhite 12th edition is our favorite. It has a warm front light, great battery life, and comes in a fun pink color. Upgrade to Signature for an auto-adjustable light and more storage space (aka more books!).
Amazon
Kindle Scribe (2024)
The Kindle Scribe 2 is a great e-reader and digital notebook in one. It’s larger than the Libra, which makes it easier to write and draw on, but the downside is that it doesn’t have a color screen. There’s a color model coming out this month, so stay tuned to see if we recommend it in our Best Kindles guide.
E-reader accessories
From cute cases to handy ribbons that make reading easier, there’s no shortage of fun options to add to your Kindle or other e-reader devices.
PopSockets
PopCase Kindle and PopGrip
PopSockets has a new range of Kindle cases that have a MagSafe ring, so you can easily place it on the PopSocket grip. The Curled Up With a Good Book design includes a matching pouch and grip that you can use together.
Sleeping cap
Not only does this handy case look beautiful, but the lines on the cover actually allow it to fold and support the Kobo while you read. Very useful! It comes in cute colors and is available for many Kobo devices, including the Clara and Libra.
PopSockets
Silver core MagSafe PopGrip
This is my favorite PopGrip. It’s large enough that my small hands can comfortably reach it on the 7-inch Paperwhite and Colorsoft, and it’s nice to touch and look at.

E-reader hand strap
These Strapsicle straps make it really easy to carry your e-reader. It’s easy to install, and I find that just using one of the two straps ensures it stays secure. The limited edition neon set is a lot of fun and worth shopping before it runs out.
Accessories for physical book readers
No e-reader? No problem. These book lights solve the constant struggle the book reader faces: the darkness that gets in the way of reading.
With her
Dual reading light
This gentle book light from WithIt shines an individual light on each half of the book, and the soft arms are easy to move independently to perfectly point to each page. It has two brightness levels to click on.
Kobo
far
Kobo has released its first-ever page-turning accessory, so you can tap to turn a page without lifting a finger. I’m glad to finally see a page turner made by an e-reader brand, instead of poor third-party options.
Bookbags
If the book lover in your life is known for carrying their e-reader or favorite book everywhere they go, here are some fun accessories to carry around (and to record their thoughts while they read!).

Paper
Reading magazine
If they always enjoy a new read, ask them for a notebook to keep track of everything they’ve read and how they liked it.
Book tabs
I don’t like primary colors when I’m annotating my books. This pack is similar to but much larger than a set I found at my local Daiso store, and the pastel colors are much more pleasing to the eyes while marking up the pages of my book.
Emotion chart
Highlight your emotion
I love these highlighters for my paper planner, and they’re a great option for readers who like to highlight paragraphs. There is a highlighter and finisher for each color if they want to underline.

This is a great series of books if you are shopping for an elementary reader or teen. The books have endured, with Bloom’s themes continuing to resonate years later.
