Despite its spread, artificial intelligence is seen as anything but regular technology. There is an talk about artificial intelligence systems that will soon deserve the term “Superinteigence”, and former Google CEO recently suggested that we control artificial intelligence models the way we control uranium and other nuclear weapons.
A recent article by artificial intelligence researchers argues in Princeton that artificial intelligence is a technology for general purposes whose application may be better compared to adoption of electricity or the Internet from nuclear weapons. The terrible complexity of technological problems
The philosopher Karl Popper once argued that there are two types of problems in the world: around the clock problems and cloud problems. As the metaphor suggests, the clock problems obey a certain logic. Reform may not be easy, but it can be achieved.
Cloud problems do not provide such assurances. It is in nature complex and unpredictable, and it usually has social, psychological or political dimensions. Due to its variable dynamic nature, the attempt to “reform” the cloud problem often ends the creation of many new problems.
But there are ways to calculate this type of technological complexity – and the evil problems it creates. Read the full story.
