Meta unveils new smart glasses with a display and wristband controller

On Wednesday, Meta unveiled a new pair of Ray-Ban smart glasses with a built-in screen for applications, alerts and trends on the right lens. Smart glasses are controlled by a wrist that picks up microscopic gestures, called Meta Neural Band, which is the same range that was revealed in Connect for the past year as part of the Orion show.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the new product, called Meta Ray-Ban Display, on stage at the annual developer conference of the company, Meta Connect 2025. Unlike Orion, Zuckerberg says this is a product that people can buy within two weeks, starting from September 30, and will cost $ 799.

This is the latest attempt by Meta to charge a pair of smart glasses for consumers that can handle many of the tasks that users are traditionally performing on the smartphone. For years, Meta was forced to access users through their competitors, those that Google and Apple are sold. While Meta has invested billions of dollars in virtual reality headphones, it seems that the smart glasses that work from artificial intelligence are the most promising way for the company to communicate with users on its own devices.

With the Meta Ray-Ban show, Meta aims to build the original Ray-Ban Meta Smart glasses, which the company sold millions of couples through its partners in glasses, Essilorluxotica. Ray-Ban Meta is very similar, the Meta Ray-Ban screen is equipped with AI’s assistant on board, as well as cameras, speakers and microphones. Glasses allow users to connect to the cloud to access the Internet and social media applications.

Meta says that the screen enables users to do more with their smart glasses. Users can view Meta apps such as Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook. Users can also display directions and watch live translations in the width of smart glasses.

It is similar to the nervous tape that is charged next to the Fitbit device, but without a screen, and it allows users to navigate the applications in small hand movements. Zuckerberg said on the stage that the national nervous range has 18 hours of battery life and water resistance.

The device uses electrical imaging (EMG) to capture the signals sent between your mind and your hand when performing a gesture. Meta is betting that this interface will be a new method that users can control their devices.

Earlier this week, a video of the latest smart glasses in Meta leaked. CNBC and Bloomberg previously reported that the smart glasses, which were internally registered Hypernova, will be revealed at the Connect Conference for this year.

It should be noted that the Meta Ray-Ban screen is much lower than the Orion Smart Glass Meta displayed at Connect 2024. This device includes augmented reality lenses and eye tracking, while this pair uses a much simpler width. It may be years before you sell Meta Orion.

However, Meta hopes that you can win the smart glasses race through marketing with a real product. However, it seems likely that Google and Apple will launch their own smart glasses in the coming years. These devices will undoubtedly be able to integrate into Google and Apple operating systems, giving them a large leg on Meta.
