‘Tollywood x Netflix collab loading’: Netizens lament Bangalore’s loss as streaming giant buys office space in Hyderabad

Netflix has acquired 41,000 sq. ft. office space at CapitaLand ITPH Block A, Hitech City, Hyderabad, to continue its growth in the Indian market. The facility is located in the same building as Warner Bros. Discovery, enhancing Hyderabad’s attractiveness as a hub for media and entertainment companies.

This new office marks Netflix’s second base in India, after its initial office in Mumbai. The expansion is set to strengthen the company’s involvement in India’s regional content scene, especially in Telugu and other southern languages.

The Hyderabad office is expected to play an important role in supporting Netflix’s creative operations, providing a dedicated space to collaborate with production teams and local talent.

Netflix India has partnered with superstars and production companies from the Telugu film industry, acquiring major films for exclusive streaming to expand its audience base.

Soon after the news spread on social media, netizens were quick to share their comments, with some quick to call it Bangalore’s loss.

“Tollywood x Netfix (sic) collaboration era is loading,” a netizen commented.

“One after another, many companies are choosing Hyderabad instead of Bangalore to open their new office. If I were ruling Bangalore, I would spend sleepless nights fixing traffic and potholes to prevent this from happening, but I am not in power and those in power are asleep,” a user wrote.

“Bangalore is saturated. It can’t handle infrastructure. There is nothing wrong in shifting industries. Govt is not shifting to tier 2 cities in Karnataka. So industries are going to other states. Normal. Nothing worth fighting for, nothing to regret (sic),” a third user commented.

A fourth user said: “Why are people in power doing this? They have all made their money. Now they will invest in Hyderabad with other local politicians helping them and will earn more money.”

Another user said: “The other problem is that Bangalore only wants Kannada speaking companies to operate there! Otherwise you will be discriminated against as a third class citizen!”

Industry sources indicate that the streaming service’s move is part of a broader effort to cater to diverse language audiences in India, a key market for OTT platforms. Over the past year, several Tollywood celebrities, including Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Prabhas and Mahesh Babu, have met with CEO Ted Sarandos, indicating a strong ongoing collaboration.
