The Decision by France, Britain, and Canada to Recognize Palestine Is Performative and Possibly Harmful
Nearly two years ago, with the preparation of the war in Gaza, politicians, analysts and journalists were studying something that could be done towards all bloodshed and suffering. In the first days that followed October 7, 2023, US President Joe Biden was seized and managed as the Palestinian Authority revitalized. Later, the so -called plans began a day later to block the incoming mailboxes for people. With the opening of Donald Trump last January, we reached his plan to turn Gaza into “Riviera to the Middle East” (along with a strange video of artificial intelligence of what the area will seem after Ghazan’s expulsion). Now, we have countries that we promised to recognize Palestinian sovereignty, including France, the United Kingdom and Canada-are almost not ridiculous like GAZ-A-Laggo, but they are not very useful either.
It is not that such a country is bad or that the Palestinians have no right to the state, but the timing and conditions associated with British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carne are recognized. French President Emmanuel Macron, according to his estimate, was not required to recognize the French state. However, the whole exercise leads. It is clear that Starmer, Macron and Carney feel the need to do something in a situation where they have a limited effect at best. Therefore, choose the virtue signal. It is difficult to imagine recognition by these three countries that help in any big way – and in fact, things may make it worse.

French President Emmanuel Macron, according to his estimate, was not required to recognize the French state. However, the whole exercise leads. In Washington, the general response between analysts was mostly in the center in advertising was negative, as commentators attack the “reward” of Hamas. It is an important reprimand. But it dominates what the British, the French and the Canadians call, which is almost rejected by Hamas – which makes another mockery of what Starmer, Macron and Carney proposed. There is no doubt that these leaders imagine something similar to what the Oslo agreements were aimed at: a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza. It is barely relevant today in a conflict that stimulates one position of Hamas against one position from Israel. Hamas attacked Israel on October 7 to liberate not only the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, but also all areas between them. Many settlers in Israel in 2025 are considered as the right moment to expand sovereignty to the West Bank – INE, and annexation – and it seems that the idea has great support within the Israeli government and the church. Yes, opinion polls have constantly demonstrated that about 70 percent of Israelis want the war to end in Gaza, but only 23 percent of the Jewish Israelis support a solution from the two countries.
It is difficult not to feel Starmer, Macron and Carney. They all have the electoral districts that strongly criticize Israel, and Starmer faces a new political challenge from the left. Jeremy Corbyn – who once referred to Hamas as “friends” but later claimed that he regretted the statement – Zara Sultana, the fierce critic of Israel, launched a new political party. However, foreign policy, which often reflects the worst option to confront leaders, should seek to do the least damage. It is strange that this does not seem part of the British, French and Canadian account.
In response to Macron’s announcement that France is planning to recognize a Palestinian state, Israeli Finance Minister Bezallil Soutrich thanked the French leader “for providing another convincing reason for the application of Israeli sovereignty in the end to the historical areas in Judea [the West Bank]To categorically abandon the failed concept of establishing a Palestinian terrorist state at the heart of the land of Israel. “Separate Smotrich’s pledge to” Zionist response “attachment to Kacun, the Israelis are not under the involvement of diplomats Xneghanis that one can imagine Israel who recognize the new independence in Calidonia, and support them in the case of 51St.
In the United States, the Republican reaction was wither (while some Democrats expressed their support for recognition of a Palestinian state). It was once difficult to imagine that the United States punishes it with the closest allies, but this now seems to be a living issue, and British, French and Canadian intentions to recognize Palestine have created more tension in these relations. Trump is certainly published on the social truth, “Wow! Canada has just announced that it supports the state for Palestine. This will make it difficult for us to conclude a commercial deal with them. O Canada !!! “The relationship through the Atlantic obtained a few recognized by Palestine.
How does any of these Palestinians help in their endeavor to obtain the state and justice? no.
There is no doubt that there are officials in the three countries who argue that recognition of Palestine is the moral thing to do. fair enough. But why add conditions, as in the case of the United Kingdom and Canada? The conditions provided by the British and the Canadians are a sign that their intentions are to identify a Palestinian state that has nothing to do with morals. It is assumed that if the humanitarian situation in Gaza improves, as Israel allows more assistance in the region – which is said to be doing now – the British will explode to recognize. If the Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas fails to hold elections that exclude Hamas, the Canadian government will not recognize Palestine. If this is the right and moral thing that must be done, then why not only recognize the Palestinian state without circumstances?
Moreover, one needs the question: Why now? Why did the United Kingdom, France and Canada not realize Palestine in 2002 when then the President of the United States, George W. Bush, announced that the forgery of “two states [Israel and Palestine]Who live alongside peace and security, “Was the United States policy? Why did not do that in 1993 after the Palestinian Authority leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin signed the declaration of principles and its destruction in the white grass, perhaps they could have recognized two films in 2000, or after that, the famous summit in Cam David or perhaps in December of that year this year of this year, with that, with that, with peace in that, with peace The year of this year, however, the assembly process in that year before, with peace in that year, with peace that year, with David in that year, with peace this year, with peace this year, with peace this year.
British, French and Canadian positions are part of the increasing international support for Palestine – 147 out of 193 members of the United Nations that have already realized it as a sovereign country. But in the most important place – Israel – the trend lines operate in the other direction. The support of the two -state solution has shrunk, and as a result, the country that the United Kingdom, France and Canada want cannot recognize. Israel maintains all the cards and whatever the three pressure they believe is to bring it to the Israelis, it is unlikely to mature. This seems terrible. The Palestinians argue that the state is a right, and they do not need the approval of anyone. In principle, it is correct, but this is not the world where we live now.
In this reality, there is no solution from the two countries and therefore there is no Palestine that must be recognized.
