Tottenham set ‘historic’ Micky van de Ven price as Real Madrid and Liverpool circle

Tottenham have set a hefty price to sign star defender Micky van de Ven amid serious interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool, according to a new report.

Micky van de Ven continues to shine at Tottenham

Van de Ven has been an impressive presence for Tottenham in the opening months of the 2025/26 season, quickly establishing himself as a key figure under Thomas Frank.

The young defender has combined defensive solidity with a superb goal-scoring touch, having already found the back of the net five times in all competitions – an impressive return for a player tasked primarily with keeping things tight at the back.

Van de Ven has also scored twice as many goals as any other Premier League defender so far this season, including Arsenal’s much-lauded free-kick weapon Gabriel, with the Dutchman being involved in all but one of Tottenham’s seven clean sheets this season as well.

The 24-year-old’s combination of pace, strength and threat has made him an indispensable member of Frank’s starting eleven, and his ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch gives Spurs a unique advantage.

Van de Ven’s importance to the Lilywhites is nothing new, as he has repeatedly bailed on Ange Postecoglou’s side when he has been fit and available.

With Cristian Romero sidelined through injury and steadily working his way back to fitness, Van de Ven and Kevin Danso have helped fill the Argentine’s shoes in a major way as Tottenham now sit third in the Premier League table.

Van de Ven’s brace against Everton, with both goals coming from set-piece play, sealed a crucial three points for Tottenham last Sunday as they became the first away side to secure a win at the brand-new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Since Van de Ven’s arrival in north London over two years ago, the Netherlands international has been linked with a move elsewhere.

Real Madrid have been specifically mentioned as suitors amid their search for new defenders, so much so that reports suggest Tottenham are willing to double Van de Ven’s salary to keep him away from the Bernabeu.

Tottenham are in no immediate danger of losing the centre-back, given he is under contract until 2029, and Frank is convinced he is happy in the No. 17 position.

“I think he’s happy here, and that’s very important and we’re happy with him, so let’s see what happens in the future,” Frank said before the Carabao Cup match with Newcastle.

“The most important thing is that he seems to be really enjoying his football, really enjoying his time here, and I’m very happy for him, everyone is really happy, so that’s a good sign.”

However, there is always a risk that Real could turn the player around, and if they can tempt Van de Ven, Spurs are clearly clear in their demands.

Tottenham sets the “historic” price of Mickey Van de Ven in the Real Madrid and Liverpool circle

According to reports out of Spain, Tottenham have set a ‘historic’ price for Van de Ven, with Real Madrid, Liverpool and even Bayern Munich circling for his signature.

Van de Ven Spurs

Tottenham are believed to want at least £88m for Van de Ven, a sum described as a “historic” sum that will make him the most expensive defender in football history – surpassing the £80m Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire in 2019.

Frank’s side are determined to keep him and will only be able to leave via a “massive offer”, highlighting his growing importance on and off the pitch.

This valuation could be part of a wider strategy that reflects Tottenham’s ambition and financial strength, especially following a major £100m capital injection by the club’s owners, the Lewis family.

The investment underscores their long-term commitment to strengthening the squad and competing at the highest level, and preventing key stars like Van de Ven from leaving will be pivotal as the north Londoners look to move on after winning the Europa League in May.
