Trump taps Joe Gebbia to lead new National Design Studio in federal web overhaul

president Donald Trump, founder of Airbnb, has chosen Job Jubia, to lead a new federal design reform aimed at making government sites “usable and beautiful”.

Jibbe, who joined the Ministry of Governmental efficiency earlier this year, said on the Tesla Board, on Saturday that he was appointed to become the first design official in the United States.

“I am honored to be appointed by Trump as the first chief design official in the United States of America,” said Jiba on X.

Gebbia will lead the newly created national design studio, a Trump temporary body on an executive order on Thursday. The studio will implement the “American by Design” initiative that aims to “improve Americans’ experiences by breathing a new life in the design of sites in which people interact with their government.”

“America has long led the world in innovation, technological progress and design,” said the executive. “But with a sprawling ecosystem for digital services provided to the Americans, the government left the ability to use and beauty.”

The White House says the Gebbia team will deal with nearly 26,000 federal facades “do not meet the needs and expectations of the public.” Only 6 % of federal websites currently “are good” on the performance of a mobile phone, and 45 % are not a mobile phone, according to the White House. The White House added that less than 20 % use the unified American web design code, which leads to unintended user experiences.

Gebbia will also include reducing refined design costs, employing the best creative talents and making digital services more efficient in various federal agencies.

The White House journalist says Trump and Misk want to make the government “good rulers” of taxpayers dollars.

The agency’s heads of agency who are working with Gebbia are expected to achieve preliminary results by July 4, 2026, where the national design studio is scheduled to work for only three years, according to the executive order.
