Trump and Sheinbaum agree to extend trade deal deadline after ‘successful’ call

president Donald Trump announced in a social position in fact that he and Mexican President Claudia Shinbom agreed to extend the deadline to reach a commercial deal, although he seemed flexible in the schedule. “We have agreed to extend, during a period of 90 days, the exact same deal that we conducted during the last short period of time, that is, Mexico will continue to pay a 25 % fentanel tariff, 25 % tariffs on cars, and 50 % tariffs on steel, and wrote Trump Trump,”.

The President added that over the next ninety days, the United States and Mexico will hold discussions with the aim of signing a commercial deal in that time period or after that.

Trump said that he and Chenebum “get to know each other,” noting that the “complications” of the deal with Mexico are different from other nations because of the borders. However, he committed to work with Mexico on this issue, especially in terms of security.

“There will be continuous cooperation on the border in terms of its connection with all aspects of security, including drugs, drug distribution and illegal immigration to the United States.”

Xinbum wrote about the invitation with Trump on X, saying it was “very good.”

“We have received a very good invitation with US President Donald Trump. We have avoided increasing the tariff that was announced tomorrow and securing 90 days to build a long -term agreement through dialogue,” Shinbom wrote.

Trump announced on July 12 that Mexico and the European Union will face a higher tariff if they do not agree to new trade deals by August 1. In addition to the advertisement, he posted messages to Shinbom and European Union President Ursula von der Lin on the social truth.

“Mexico helped me secure the borders, but what Mexico did is not enough,” Trump wrote in a letter on July 11 to Xinbom. “Mexico still did not stop the cartals trying to convert all North America into a stadium to avoid NARCO. Obviously, I cannot leave that!”

In the letter, Trump Shinbum reported that Mexico will face a 30 % tariff starting from August 1, and that if it raises its tariff on the United States, it will in turn face the same customs tariff in addition to 30 %.

The European Union also enables to avoid a 30 % tariff. On Sunday, Trump announced that the United States and the European Union have agreed to a commercial framework.

“We agree that the customs tariff directly for cars and everything will be a 15 % direct tariff,” Trump said. “So we have a tariff of 15 %. We have openness to all European countries, which I think I can say is mainly closed.”

Under the terms of the commercial deal, almost all goods from the European Union will be subject to a 15 % basic tariff, which is 20 % less than mutual tariffs that Trump announced at the “Liberation Day” event in early April, but much higher than the 2.5 % definitions last year.
