Trump discusses timeline for Iran negotiations, says Israel will lead military action

president Donald Trump told reporters that if Iran does not give up the nuclear weapons program, Israel’s military action is a real possibility, adding that he has a deadline when the two countries must reach an agreement.

The United States and Iran are expected to hold negotiations on Saturday in Amman, where the Trump administration continues to try to curb the country’s nuclear program, threatening a “great danger” if the two sides fail to reach an agreement.

Trump told reporters from the Oval Office on Wednesday that he had a deadline when the talks should be crowned with an agreed solution, but the president did not take details of the nature of the schedule.

“We have a little time, but we don’t have much time, because we will not let them get a nuclear weapon. We cannot allow them a nuclear weapon.” Trump said when clicking on details about his potential schedule. “I’m not asking for much. I just – no – they can’t have a nuclear weapon.”

When asked about the possibility of military action if Iran does not reach an agreement on its nuclear weapons, Trump said, “Certainly.”

“If this requires the army, we will get an army,” the president told reporters. “It is clear that Israel will largely participate in it. They will be the leader of it. But no one leads us. We do what we want to do.”
