Trump emergency declaration cites eye-popping number of jobs lost in hollowed-out industry

The Trump administration claims that the country’s $ 1.2 trillion trade deficit in the country leads to the erosion of manufacturing functions in the United States, as a large group of customs tariffs designated to strike a group of countries was set on Wednesday.

President Donald Trump announced the wave of customs tariffs during a ceremony in the Roses Park at the White House to attend an event that made the wealthy America again on April 2, and said that the new duties will lead to the flow of jobs for American workers.

Trump and managed to detonate commercial practices of other countries and accused them of unfair commercial practices against the United States; They have also argued that the customs tariff will help in returning manufacturing functions to the United States as a result, as he and his administration called for the use of customs tariffs to address these commercial practices.

“The deficit in the trade of large and continuous American goods led to the exit from our industrial base; it resulted in a shortage of incentives to increase the advanced local manufacturing capacity; it underwent critical supply chains; and made our industrial defense base depend on foreign opponents,” the White House.

While the production of American manufacturing represents more than 28 % of global production in 2001, this number decreased to more than 17 % in 2023, according to the White House Fact newspaper. In general, the White House said that the United States lost a total of 5 million jobs in manufacturing between 1997 and 2024.

The Trump administration tariff plan determines a 10 % basic duty on all imports of the United States, while the definitions allocated to countries with a higher tariff for American goods will be set. The basic definitions of 10 % entered on Saturday, while others will be valid on Wednesday.

After announcing the new definitions, White House press secretary Caroline Levit said nearly 70 countries continued to try to mediate in a commercial deal.

“The countries are on themselves to reform their unfair commercial practices [open] “Why??” Levitte told reporters on Tuesday. Why? “Why, because these countries greatly respect President Trump and the tremendous power of the American market. These countries realize that they have become dirty over the past few decades by imposing a great tariff on American -made products and ridiculous non -monetary barriers to avoid the American industry.”

“The customs duties are a tax on consumers,” Cruz said in an interview with Larry Kudolo. “

A group of Senate members of the two parties submitted on Friday legislation called the 2025 Commercial Review law, which requires the executive branch to provide Congress with a 48 -hour notice before imposing a customs tariff. This measure will also require its validity after 60 days that the Congress has not signed a joint decision that is notified of duties.
